can a md device be partitioned?

Hi, 

Could anyone tell me if an md device can 
be partitioned.

when I do an fdisk on it it gives me a message
telling me that

 md ioctl is obsolete, install new software
and use new ioctl. 

i am currently using raidtools-0.90
the kernel patch I am using is 

raid0145-19990724-2.2.10
