With raid (striping) support at boot enabled, I get the kernel registering /dev/sd[abcd]2 to /dev/md1 (/) correctly and mounting of / occurs correctly, but the disks seem to "move" up to /dev/sd[efgh] (thus the rest of the machine boot fails miserably), and I've no useful debugging output to give you for that reason. I will spend a bit of time helping, though, if somebody mails me experiments to run.
