Yup.  I have another issue with the current aha1542 driver; a patch to
support the 1542cp adapter, fouled up the detection of the "extended
translation" on the 1542cf.  In order to run lilo on the disk (/ is there),
I need to comment out a single line in aha1542.c (search for 0x03 and you'll
find it).

But I can live with it as it is.

It did.  pre7 worked perfectly with my DAT drive.

Andries, I'll download and try your driver just for kick over the weekend.
