NCR SCSI problem with UMAX 1220S Scanner

I'm running the 2.2.9 Kernel and experience the following error message:

"scsi0 : Danger : abort_connected() called"

Or words to that effect. When using either xscanimage or scanimage. After
several seconds the system locks up and requires a hit of the reset button
to recover.  Any suggestions or tips would be most appreciated.
