Dear 53c810a Users,
a few weeks ago I bought a cheap MAXTRON MAX-810 (Fast SCSI) Adapter
with an sym53c810a Chip on it.
I tried two different scsi disk, wich worked on an adaptec 28xx controller,
but when doing large copys from that disks (i.e, dd if=/dev/sda ...) the
copy stops afer some time and after a lot of messages the kernel finaly
died (see attached log file).
I think, maybe I have two problems:
1) The hardware is somehow brocken or at least sometimes a parity error on the SCSI
occurs (Termination is ok according to the Adapter manual (Resistor packs
are installed)).
2) The driver (and/or the kernel 2.2.13) seems to get confused with that error, so
after some error retrys the machine hangs with an oops.
I have tried already 2.2.14pre14, but that seems to make no difference.
Next I will try patch-53c8xx-s03-d0x-2.2.13 and see if that makes any difference.
Also beetween the ncr* and the sym* driver there seems to be no difference.
I have compiled the scsi main module and disk module into the kernel, and load
the low level driver with insmod, but that shouldn't be a problem, or ?
Any ideas what options to set or what to try next ?
