Hello...
I am having some problems making a serial (PPP) link to the web and am not
sure if it is a serial setup problem or a ppp problem. So please bear with
me if some of this seems off-topic. I am running SuSE linux.
Basically, I have resolved all errors in my log file and still cant connect
to the internet. Here is some of the things I have tried.
Where I am at:
chat -v -f /pppscript - does not connect to the modem. It stops at the
atdt command. The pppscript is the one supplied by
mindspring. It
did at one point dial, but stopped working.
minicom - will dial and if I try starting pppd by hand it does not connect.
kppp - would dial but not connect with the first modem i tried. Havent
tried it with the second modem yet.
I would post my logs but there is nothing in there now but alarm for chat and
pppd started by root for pppd when tried with minicom.
What I have tried:
1. Upgrading pppd from the one supplied with SuSe 6.2(2.3.8) to 2.3.10
2. Recompiling the kernal, double checking to make sure ppp kernal support
was there.
3. Switching the modem from one port to another.
4. Switching serial cords (Both modems were external)
5. Switching modems (Took the original modem back after getting crappy tech
support from the company , ZOOM. Bought another brand MaxTech). This one
was an outdated 33.6 which claims to be upgradable.
There seems to be some sort of disconnect somewhere in the software.
PLEASE HELP. TIA.
