I would dig deep inside the Registry. Wouldn't surprise me if there is some
like "Dont Probe" key for the mouse driver, or perhaps a "No Mouse" key for
the serial port driver. They must (?) have provided for the possibility of
other devices sending a M at startup.
Also consider another alternative.
I believe that if you install another driver that says it uses the COM port,
the mouse driver doesn't bother with it.
So, if you write a small driver to do what you want, instead of an app, you
should be ok.
