I've already got this. Thank you. It's unfortunately not helpful for my
case as the ioctl's referred to block until something happens on the
control lines.  I'd like to be woken up in that event, yes, but also if
something interesting happens on other fd's that I am interested in.
Threading is not an option I'd like to consider and I'd prefer not to
launch multiple processes with some form of ipc to indicate events on
the port. I am hoping there is something that will fit the single
process model and fit well into waiting for other events too.

Someone has suggested that I read serial.c ... I'm going to do that now
and see if I spot anything.
