I have set up a dhcp server on a redhat box running 2.2.12-20, all
seems to work OK but there is a problem with the dhcpd.leases file. I
created the file in /var/state/dhcp and when I stop/start the dhcpd
daemon the file is updated with the date/time but there are no entries
of the leases in the file after a client has received it's IP address.

TIA

Oooh, oooh - They've got RedHat Linux 5.2 for ONLY $40 - such a deal!

Thanks for replaying my questions

I am trying to use one of my computer as a router to be able to manipulate
the data packet I am receiving from the other two computers by adding some
delay or deleting some packet,. I dont know if it is possible to do so, by
making one of my computers as a router.
I will be glad if you can give me some good tips.

If you are wanting to be able to modify the datagrams then you
may just need a firewall which can manipulate the datagrams.

I was wandering, if there were any package or tools in Linux for testing

Tobias,

I had a similar problem recently, and the way I fixed it was to get the
latest X drivers which actually came with a new distribution I
installed. I think I had SUSE 6.2 installed and I installed Mandrake
7.0. If you want to keep the distribution you have you may just want to
upgrade the X drivers. Try looking at www.xfree86.org

You should not repair a mounted disk.

Try to boot a rescue Linux and run 'e2fsck /dev/hda5' manually.

After you repaired it you can try to boot from it.

Thanks for reply.

But in reality I'm so irritate...
So I want to bawl out the Linux more generally Unix comminauty,
particularly those which are responsable for doc production.
A simple question is: How a newbe's can immaginate the location
where some commands must be run??
I the majority of linux books, Howto's, papers, Forums, etc., You find
alway:
make, make install, configure, do this, do that,......................
and no things forther about WHERE THIS MUST BE "DO".
The result several hours losted for both newbe's and the gurus.
However, if we take only some seconds to explain clairely the "HOW and
WHERE" of things, I'm sure forums will be so usuful...

Excuse me that is my opinion after searching in several books and
forums...

Check to see that this line is in /etc/conf.modules

alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc

Then you can use "printtool" to set your printer if it is listed.

Nope; still broken. Time to play with kernel options.

Ah, problem solved. The upgrade procedure saw fit to downgrade my
vim version to the "minimal" version. I uninstalled the "minimal"
version and installed the full-blown version.

I think the thing that bothers me the most about the RH 6.2 upgrade
procedure is that it chose to arbitrarily change so many defaults.
If I'd *wanted* underlined text to be drawn in yellow instead of
underlined, I'd have changed the defaults myself. If I'd *wanted*
"ls" to have the "--color==tty" option set, I would have set it
myself. If I'd *wanted* the backspace key to generate some key other
than backspace, I would have changed it myself. Etc., etc., etc.

I read with interest your reply to the fellow who is trying to set up a
router.
I followed your pointers to freshmeat.net and tried to find the
Multi-Ethernet mini-HOWTO, but could not find it any longer.

I am trying to set up a simple router to connect two network segments using
a RH 5.2 Linux distro.

The make menuconf indicates that IP Forwarding is installed.
I have the routed running.
ifconfig reports the proper IP address on eth0 and eth1

eth0= 10.18.10.4
eth1= 209.87.233.1

The routing table looks like this:

Destination Gateway Genmask Iface

127.0.0.1 255.0.0.0 * lo
10.18.10.0 255.255.255.0 * eth0
209.87.233.0 255.255.255.0 * eth1
10.18.10.4 255.255.255.255 * eth1

Am I correct in thinking that the last entry should pass packets from the
NIC on the 209. network to the NIC on the 10. network?

The whole point of the exercise is to give the Windoze workstations on the
209. network access to the DSL router on the 10. net.

Any help or pointers to documentation would be greatly appreciated.
