Yes, and you trigger its sending you a login prompt by sending it ascii
characters after the connection. It may be that they actually want a
login connection (this is getting rare as Windows machines do not like
that). But first try to see if they want immediate ppp as per my advice.

]I.

Try following axion.phsyics.ubc.ca/ppp-linux.html
It may be that they want ppp started in this way. The evidence is
unclear. On your minicom login, even when you did send it ppp, it did
not send back a whole string of garbage which suggests it is not
starting up ppp at that point.

LOL!!! i like that!
check your libraries..as stated above, you will more than likely need to
reinstall gcc but this may just reveal that you don't have needed
libraries..just keep chuggin and youll get it..it will tell you what it
needs by telling you what it can't find. if problem remains after gcc
and libraries are installed then start thinking about running!!..just
kidding..go thru howto's, books etc. you'll figure it out. in the long
run..configuring and compiling apps manually is the best way to install
software!!!
hope this helps and excuse my windoze (im at work)

Hello,

I installed XFree 4.0.1 binaries on Mandrake 7.1 and it seems to work
well
with one card :

ATI 3D Rage Pro - on board AGP card on a Dell GX1

I want to try dual-head and so installed a PCI card :

ATI Rage IIc 4M

With 2 cards installed I cannot start X on the on-board AGP
card, even though it shows up on "XFree86 -scanpci"
Only the PCI card works.

I'd be most grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks,

scripts/mkdep.c:13:string.h:Aucun fichier ou rpertoire de ce type
scripts/mkdep.c:13:unistd.h:Aucun fichier ou rpertoire de ce type

it means thant the server can't find this .h files. i verify that there

What kine of IDE controller are you using? If you are using the Promise
Ultra66 then you should either pull it out and use the onboard ATA33
controller, or you will have to recompile the kernel.

I know, it's almost unforgivable but...

there's a nice little .bat file on the RH cdrom that enables an easy
migration from dos.

In those circumstances I think it's ok to mention the ms words, very
quietly of course...

OK, I tried doing the cdrecord binary is now SUID root, and I've made sure that
the sg module is loaded (and confirmed using lsmod). I'm still having no luck
using "cdrecord -scanbus"

I've now compiled version 1.8.1 of cdrecord and replaced the one installed by
default on the system. As I previously stated, "cdrecord -scanbus" still doesn't
work. However, now when I try:

    cdrecord -v speed=4 dev=0,6,0 <CD IMG>

I now get:

    Cdrecord 1.8.1 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2000 Jrg Schilling

Is there something else I have to do?

You may if you've compiled with specific CPU optimizations, but I'd tend to
doubt it.

How about posting error messages or boot output?

Hello all, I'm having some difficulties and any help would be great. Here's
some of my problems/questions... :

1) I have two net cards (internet and local) and want to block ALL access
from the internet to my machine EXCEPT through the VPN. Is there any easy
way to do this?

2) The VPN is on a linux box, and I would like to be able to connect to the
rest of my network which is primarily Windows NT, 98, or 2000. How would I
go about doing this?

I know these are broad questions, but even a point in the right direction
would be helpful at this point.
Thankyou!

-From the cdrecord README:
- If you get a message like:
cdrecord: Function not implemented. shmget failed
You need to look for three possible reasons:
        - You are using a Linux Kernel 2.3.51 or newer.
                Read README.linux-shm
        - You removed SVSv IPC from your kernel. You need to
                enable it again.
Run a Linux kernel config and recompile with SYSv IPC.

I recall getting the mlockall() error before, but can't remember what I
did to fix it. If you're running a 2.3 series kernel, you'll need to
add this line to /etc/fstab:
none /var/shm shm exec,dev,suid,rw 0 0
also create the mount point /var/shm if it doesn't exist. Also, you'll
need to make sure that the device files /dev/sg[0-7] exist; use mknod or
/dev/MAKEDEV to create them if they don't exist....

Beware of sysadmins, for they are quick to anger and have no need of

According to the IBM PC standard, ttyS0 and ttyS2 (COM1 and COM3, that is)
both are supposed to share IRQ 4. Is it possible to switch the internal
modem to COM4 or COM2 (both are supposed to use IRQ 3)? Did setserial
return errors or informative messages when you used it on /dev/ttyS2?
Try setting the modem to something other than COM3, and if you're not
currently using the second serial port (ttyS1/COM2) then you may want to
disable it in the BIOS.

Sturgeon's Law: 90% of everything is crud.
MG's Extension: The other 10% is included in "everything," and it's

Since no suitable partitioning tool exist for Linux, you cannot
install Linux on a machine that have Windows on it.

I have the same card and had the same problem until I upgraded to XFree86
4.0.0. I still got some minor garbage until I set Option
"XaaNoOffscreenPixmaps" and Option "Expose" in XF86Config.

Change the ID (type) of the extended partition from 05 to 0F, or
better, 85. According to the specifications, an extended partition
type 05 cannot end after cylinder 1023.
