All of the following steps MUST be done at the DOS prompt.
With a formatted disk in A: you will need to give these commands at the
C:\ prompt.
C:\>cd \path\to\dosutils
Be sure you enter the correct path to the dosutils directory. If you
find that you can't cd directly into the dosutils directory then
you may have to cd one directory at a time as follows.
C:\>cd \path [enter]
C:\PATH\> cd \to [enter]
C:\PATH\TO\> cd \dosutils [enter]
This should put you into the dosutils directory. C:\>PATH\TO\DOSUTILS\
Once in the dosutils directory give these commands.
rawrite [enter]
You will be asked to enter the path to the image (.img) file you wish to
write.
C:\path\to\boot.img [enter]
Once you tell it what file to write then it will ask you where you want
it to be written to. Since you want it written to a floppy the
answer is simply.

No, you never get a network install option. you must supply it in the
command line, and you must run it as root. If /net did not work, try
-net as the option. (The staroffice people seem to be confused as to
which one to use. On Win machines options are often / while on unix they
are -) I cannot remember which I used.
Then make sure you make everything readable and executable by all users
then as the user run the setup program in the program file.
Ask to do a local installation ( installs about 2K of files) It is the
"standard Worstation Installation" on the "Select Installation Type"

It is a low frills distro with a small core size.

The LGPL does infact tend to be used instead of the GPL in instances
where merely reusing a component, while not actually altering that

This dramatically alters the nature and usefulness of Free Software

anti-GPL cabal here would prefer one to believe.

I've read that qmail is easier to use. Is that true? Should I use it

Greetings Mike, others have given you some good advice as far as the
dmesg command goes, but here is something you may want to try.
When the bootup is complete and you're sitting at the login prompt, hit
the right <shift> and <pg-up> or <pg-down>. It must be the right shift
key and then page-up or down will scroll all the way back to the beginning
of the boot process.

Hi,
I am getting the following error when my newly installed Linux Mandrake 7.1
tries to mount my
two DOS drives:
mount: /dev/hda1 (and /dev/hdb1) has wrong major or minor number.
I have Mandrake 7.0 installed on another drive and this mounts the DOS
drives without any problem.
I get the same message when I try to mount the drive from a console command.
Any idea what it
means? I've done several web searches and found that several people have
asked the
question but no one seems to have answered it.
Anyone help me please?
Thanks,

Help!
I want too install Linux on a laptop Compaq Armada E500 450 Mhz. with a
harddisk
off about 12Gb. model ibm-dara-212000.
I installed linux and wanted to install LILO, but it appears that i have
more than 1024 cilinders in the first Linux boot partition.
O.K., so i want to change that with fdisk.
At first a message appears that the number of cilinders is set to 1559 and
that is gives problems installing LILO
I go to the extra functionality expert mode, type c and set the number of
cil. too 1023.
When i write to table and exit, and reboot, the cilinders are set back to
1559 head 240 and sectors 63.
Do i have to change the sec and head settings too, and so, too what?
Hope you can help, in the mean time ill be trying too figure it out myself.

qmail is more secure and easier to configure than send mail.
It can be installed by rpm now and then just a few configurations and
your up and running. Check http://www.qmail.org for the location to get

Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2000 18:39:29 GMT
Ok, I'm 0 for 4 on recompiling kernels, and it's getting aggrivating.
Here's my problem.
The existing linux is Redhat - I'm installing a new kernel first, then
adding IPSEC to it. But thus far I can't get just the regular old
kernel to install. Everything compiles and installs properly without
any errors whatsoever, but when I reboot, none of my ethernet drivers
load, and I get several "insmod" errors. They roll by awfully fast, but
I know one involves "tulip.o", and some others involve things in the
"ipv4" directory. Either way, I have yet to get a kernel to install
properly.
I've tried installing a bunch of different types of kernels and several
version numbers - this one was from ftp.kernel.org, the latest beta
version, test4. Before anyone asks, I've tried the "stable" kernel, and
yes I've "make clean"ed to my heart's content, not to mention just flat
out dumping everything in the /src directory in frustration. Nothing I
do seems to get my ethernet cards (2 of them, one SMC, one tulip) to
work, nor can I just get a nice error-free boot. Am I missing a step
somewhere? What can I do, after I find out the specific drivers that
are balking on startup, to make everything work? Any help would be
appreciated.
A cc to my e-mail address would also be appreciated, in case I miss the
post. :) Thanks a lot.
