suggest looking at Samba.

Got two separate disk drives in my computer, one with Linux installed
the other with windows 98.
Trying to setup the LILO config with the primary master as linux,
and primary slave as windows. What is the lilo config requirements
to achieve this?
currently works fine to get into linux, but
crashes when attempting to go to windows.
The only way to boot to windows presently is via boot floppy disk.
UGH!

An associate has been unsuccessfully attempting to install Linux (RH 6.0)
on an older machine using a parallel port CD (a BackPacker, I believe). I
pointed him to a few online resources such as the Parallel Port HowTo, and
the "Installing from Zip" HowTo, but he's still struggling.

Any helpful suggestions: links, or distributions which will sucessfully
install from a ParPort CD-ROM?

(The machine is not networked, so NFS is out.)

Thanks in advance,

Get your redhat CD and do an upgrade of the standard linux core packages.
Hopefully you won't lose anything when you do an upgrade.

The only thing I can suggest is that you check your startup

>Is this just a problem I'll have to live with?

I use Netscape 4-something and fvwm2 or lesstif. I can cut and paste in
either direction so long as I open the terminals in fvwm or lesstif. If
I try to cut and paste from Netscape to a terminal accessed by cntrl-alt-F1
or whatever (not in X), it doesn't work. Is this what you are trying?

xterm can be customized in a lot of ways (man xterm) but the mouse
cut-&-paste is pretty standard. However xterm has two modes, VT102
(the default) and Tektronix. If somebody has set your mode to
Tektronix the mouse operates a bit differently. In an xterm window,
do cntrl-mousebutton 2 and a menu will drop down. You can see and change
this variable (and others) in that window if necessary.

If you hate the way xterm is treating you and can't fix it try some
of the different window managers in fvwm2. Click and hold button 1
on the background to see the Start menu; go programs/utilities/shells
and you will get more choices. I use rxvt most of the time.

Hope this helps,

I'm using Netscape as an email client. Instead of having Netscape download

my mail from my POP account, I use fetchmail and procmail. I selected the MoveMail

option in the Netscape Mail Server Preferences and asked it to auto check every

2 or 3 minutes. The problem is it does not check my spool file unless I click the

"Get Msg" button. It seems it shoud automatically check my mail spool and put new

messages in $HOME/nsmail/Inbox and refresh its display, but it doesn't.

Anyone have a solution for this or do I just have to keep clicking the "Get Msg"

you could boot from floppy. i believe that there has to be a "master" boot
loader, and since lilo can boot both winnt and linux, and winnt can't,
you're prolly better off with lilo...

The maximum number of files depends on the amount of physical memory
your system has.
Take amount of physical memory and divide by 4 = sum
multiply sum by 256

  64/4=16 16*256=4096 max files= 4096

You will need to also raise the max inodes.
For the max-inodes you take the max-files and multiply by 4

        4096*4=16384 max inodes= 163984

Then:
echo "4096" > /proc/sys/fs/file-max
echo "16384" > /proc/sys/fs/inode-max

To have these changes run at boot time add the lines above to the end of
/etc/rc.d/rc.local or if you are running a system that uses
/etc/sysctl.conf you can add the lines below instead.

# Maximum number of open files
fs.file-max = 4096
#
# Maximum number of inodes open
fs.inode-max = 16384

See if this helps:

In ~/.Xdefaults, include:

xterm*marginBell: false

You may have a "*marginBell: true" line in
/etc/X11/app-defaults/XTerm (or something similar) that turns on the
margin bell globally.

This should make xterm start with the margin bell disabled.
