Obvious one, but...
Have you created an empty directory to mount your partition?
I prefer to place the partition information in /etc/fstab.
At boot, the partitions are mounted and ready to roll before I'm logged
in.

I'm certainly not an expert on this, but try editing your .mailcap file
directly. I've sometimes had better luck doing it that way.
After you edit .mailcap, you'll need to "pretend" like your going to add a
new MIME-type to netscape. When you open the
Edit|Preferences|Navigator|Applications dialog, a box will pop up saying
that the mailcap entry has been changed on disk. Just click on OK, and
close the dialog box. Netscape should then understand what it needs to do.
PS: The reason you have to go through that rigamarole is to force netscape
to re-read the .mailcap file.

Check the ownership of your /home/user directory config files,
particularly .Xauthority and .Xdefaults.
What you've probably done is SU'd to root in a console, then started X.
This causes the above mentioned files to be owned by root. Trying to
boot as user after that becomes difficult.

I still have cryptographie on the roadmap of my XML::Edifact module.
#------------------------------------------------------------------------------#
Alf O. Watt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> proposed a simple solution using
namespaces and processing instructions to the perlxml mailing list in
December 1998. The beauty of this aproach is that the secure document
is still well-formed and valid, and of the same document type. It could
even be translated back to UN/EDIFACT to obtain a message with encrypted
segments.
#------------------------------------------------------------------------------#
I think that cryptographie on document level is extremly important,
as the documents may contain confidental data.

what about <!DOCTYPE RST "http://www.webcam.de/fubar.dtd> this would not
only mean the same (www.webcam.de is 127.0.0.1 ;-) but offers the possibility
to change in future versions.

It's understandle that it would be bigger than WP8, which is simply a
word processor. How about Corel Office? Anyone tried that. That
seemes like more of a fair comparison, since it has spreadsheet, word
processor, presentations, etc. like the other two.

:) Does anyone know why it's doing this or how I can get it to stop? I've

Unless you see that message like a real message in the index of messages
in your mail program there is nothing yu have to worry about. This message
is an internal message for the IMAP server. Recent versions of Pine don't
see this message, and in the unlikely case you see it there is a
configuration option that allows you to not to create the message when you
actually delete it. Nothing really bad would happen if you deleted this
message, you would not loose e-mail, but if your program knows how to use
this message then you would loose functionality, which maybe you don't
care after all.

It might replace programs (programs are interpreted data in their
own right, after all -- to the right interpreter, such as an x86
micro, a JVM, or even a BASIC environment), but it sure looks
hard to manage, although not too hard to generate.
But why can't we use a schema/data approach? Something like:
first 8 bytes - magic signature number, just because
byte - endianity
byte - user-defined version ID
2 bytes - number of fields
field descriptor byte: 0=short, 1=long, 2=float, 3=double,
4=zero-terminated string
field name: zero-terminated string
field descriptor byte:
field name:
...
(The floats would be in IEEE format, which is the one 680x0 and
80x86 micros use -- and possibly a large number of other computer
systems.)
Surely somebody out there's thought of a standard for this.
Or one can use a chunky format, something a la Amiga's IFF,
where data is in chunks, understood by each program. Chunks
could even have DTD-like structures if necessary.
But nooooooo....we get to clutter up what is essentially a
data-centric stream with a lot of framing clutter. Unless
I'm missing something in the DTD spec which allows for the
specification in binary of all of this data...?

Hi
My Apache won't work. I mean I have installed SuSE 6.4 on
my PC first without Apache. After that I downloaded the source
code for Apache 1.3.12. Everything works properly after compiling
and installing it. But when I try to access it from my browser it
returns a 403-FORBIDDEN error.
Im almost sure to have the right entries in my httpd.conf because
on another server it works with the same values except that I have
installed Apache from yast.
Do I have to change access-rights of directories or files manually?
But I need the install from source !
It would be so fine if somebody could help me with my problem

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit
Problem: when an external scsi cdrom writer is attached (through a
pcmcia card), the system mounts the device to the same mount directory
of the internal cdrom player.
The rc.sysinit script causes both my built-in cdrom and my external
cdrom to mount at the same directory. I have tried adjusting fstab and
mtab with no successful difference being made. I am running the
external scsi cdrom writer from a scsi pcmcia card on Redhat 6.2,
kernel 2.2.16-3. Any suggestions for changing the order, adding or
modifying a line in the rc.sysinit script? Or, is there another way
that is not occuring to me?
For example, both the cdrom and the external cdrom writer mount to
/mnt/cdrom even though fstab clearly shows /mnt/cdromscsi as the mount
directory for the scsi.
I need to write the start up script in such a way that when the scsi
cdrom writer is not attached that the system will continue to recognize
it and mount it at a unique designated mount directory on a subsequent
startup when it is attached
Issue, if the /etc/rc.sysinit script needs modification, do I modify the
line that contains:
mount -a -t nonfs,smbfs,ncpfs,proc
This mounts all the file systems.
Perhaps commenting out the clear /etc/mtab statement by changing:
#Clear mtab
>/etc/mtab
To show as below:
#Clear mtab
#>/etc/mtab
The only problem I see with this is that the system will require the
same mount setup as when I shut down the system. If I carefully make
sure this always takes place, I'll be okay. Otherwise, schizophrenia
will have a chance to usurp my filesystem.
I wish I had room on my harddrive to load another linux os and compare
the startup scripts.

I remembered that after I partitioned my disk using fdisk, I

Date: Fri, 25 Aug 2000 18:35:01 GMT
Hi, all
When writing a shell program, I need put the current date into a
variable. I tried 'a=exec date', but a is the return status of
command 'date', not the output of 'date'.
Can anyone tell me how to do it?

Although this message was cross-posted to lots of groups, you will
find that they are all either Linux or XML groups. Both XML and Linux
are leaning towards simplification of software management with such
creations as the new SCO-Linux alliance and the XUL / CSS interface
definition of the GUI in Netscape 6.
To make such a broad statement, so far out of the appropriate context,
does not further discussion.

Subject: cannot get into Gnome

I just installed Redhat Linux 6.2 onto my new PC. I use a Voodoo3 2000
w/16MB video card. But after I login, and type "startx" in my shell
prompt, a little portion (about 10%) on top of the GUI screen shows up.
And when I move the mousedown to the black region of hte screen, it
disappears, i.e. everything is visible only at the top 10% of the screen
after switching to the GUI screen. What would the problem be and how I
could solve it??
Best Regards,
Anson

Subject: modules.conf and fstab ignored in RedHat 6.2
Date: Fri, 25 Aug 2000 11:43:17 -0700
I have the cdrom set up in fstab as follows:
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 defaults,ro,users,noauto,unhide 0 0
However, everytime I mount it, RedHat 6.2 insists on mounting it as
noexec, nosuid. So I change the line explicitly to
/dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom iso9660 ro,suid,dev,users,exec,noauto,unhide 0 0
And it *still* gets mounted as noexec, nosuid. So now I have to mount it
with -o exec on the command line. How can I fix this behavior?
Everything worked fine with RedHat 6.1.
Also, the modules.conf file is getting ignored. Modules won't load or
unload automatically, even though they worked fine under 6.1. I did
have to change conf.modules to modules.conf to make 6.2 happy, but that
was the only change I made. Anyone else having these problems?
