A) Does the script work if you run it with the start option
eg, as root do
/etc/init.d/sshd start
B) Does it work if you run the start service from the rc3.d
/etc/rc.d/rc3.d/S72sshd start
C) Do you have the appropriate stop service in /etc/rc6.d
/etc/rc.d/rc6.d/K45sshd which will run with the stop option
d) Are your starting in runlevel 3? If you run in runlevel 5, then the
runlevel 3 script will not get run. So you need to put them into all
runlevels you may start up in where you want them to run.
(runlevel 3-- console login
runlevel 5 -- Xdm login)
E) All of the rpm packages for these services install the appropriate
scripts and links for you. What happened in your case?

Your Ensoniq card doesn't natively support Sun's au format, which is
what /dev/audio is for, I think. There's more information in the driver
itself. It's under drivers/sound/es1370.c. You can try cat-ing a WAV to
/dev/dsp to verify that it really is working, though.

You're right. When my card (an es1371) fails, it gives a quite noticeable error.

During install, you will get a question wich partitions you want to
format. Just deselect your old /home partition, and everything should be
saved.

I am writing a small script that needs to load pictures from a disk onto
the hard drive, but I want to give away the ownership
so the person loading cannot accidently change the original photo. I
have tried chown, but it won't give away ownership.
How could I do this?
This is just a stand alone, so I'm not so worried about the risk.

i tried installing TurboLinux with the exact card you have, the ELSA Erazor
X2
but no luck. i tried the SVGA option in the X server. the weblink at
http://linux.integrity.hu/en/html/glx_64.html says that should work for any
GeForce card.
well from our installs it doesnt work with either the Suse or Turbo versions
of the Linux
install. I did find some Nvidia specific drivers but I have no idea how to
incorporate them into
my setup. the link is at
http://www.nvidia.com/products.nsf/htmlmedia/detonator3.html
if you have any idea on how to do this then please let me know ASAP.

hello everyone!
i have just installed the free linux-mandrake 7.1 (CD1) i got from
maximum linux magazine. i chose to install lin4win just to give it a
try. everything seems to work fine except the modem.
here's the spec. of my system:
cpu- cyrix MII-333
sdram-64M
video card- Matrox Mill. G200 AGP
Sound card-Sound pro
modem- SupraExpress 56i-Sp
HD- 3.2G windows98 using 1.2G
i have tried the instruction found on TUKLU.COM-LINUX without luck.
i could not run 'minicom'. running as root, it gives me the
message 'command not found'.do you think the package was not installed?
'modemtool' command also could not be found.
/etc/ppp/options :running as root, i was denied permission!
do you think something is wrong with the installation? i mean is it
possible some important packages was not installed?
one more question, how do i uncomment? i can not delete the #(hash)
symbol in front of a line. if hit any key while trying to delete the #
symbol, the cursor always put me in front of the [root...] prompt.
thank you for reading my post. i will really appreciate any help you'll

By "disk" I'm assuming you mean floppy, and if that's the case, just mount it
as read-only using -r or -o ro in the mount command string.

Apache will not understand .html files with php tags .
.phtml .php are OK (if you added addtype strings) .
You dont need to check every html file for php tags,
just those with php tags in them( .phtml or .php).
Check httpd.conf again.

You can turn off all ide drives in the bios, whic is what I have done on my
server, linux does not need the bios to fins ide drives. You may also have
to alter the lilo stanza to tell it what scsi drive contains the boot ie
mine is
boot = /dev/sda

You must have a /boot partition below the 1024 cylinder. If it is a large
drive without that partition - it will probably not work correctly. I have
heard the new LILO fixes this bug. You could upgrade and re-run lilo
again.

Didn't find problems installing RH 6.2 using the GUI-setup (could not get it
done using text setup).
When in the setup you make 2 partitions on each disk and combine those 2 as
a raid-1 device (just as you did for the other ones ? ! ) and you should
have no problems, boot and / will be configured

They just want more money, approx $200 per month (256K uplink). I cancelled
my cable modem subscription in 4 hours after contacting their tech support.
I am still waiting for DSL to come to my area. You can usually have static

Hi,
I installed today a fresh RH6.2 installation on a SCSI-system equiped
with 2 18.4 Gb Seagate disks.
Following the GUI installation a created a mirror using raid-1 and
everything installed smoothly.
Now after installing I wanted to upgrade the kernel from 2.2.14 to
2.2.16 and with that kernel the system fails to boot , saying that md1
is not running.
Now I compiled (not as modules) all the required RAID-related options
in the kernel and do not understand why it does not want to boot.
Any suggestions ?
