I had problems loading the sound module when I installed the standard kernel
but when I installed the fb kernel I had no problems at all, alternativly
download the drivers from open.creative.com I think.

Well, I will try to provide as much info as I can about my ethernet card
configuration:

and finally the etc/resolv.conf was just the word 'search'
I try to configure the routing as follows:
ifconfig eth0 153.104.154.19 netmask 255.255.252.0 up
also I try the following :
route add -net 153.104.154.19 netmask 255.255.252.0 eth0 but it gave me an
error saying that the netmask was not the same as the something else. I am
sorry but I don't remember exactly what was it.
well, i hope this info will help you so you can help me . Finally I would
like to make a correction. When I said Linux 6.1 I meant RedHat 6.1 .

Just a note:
8Mb ram is not enaugh for redhat 6.x install. It just quits with a lot of
error messages.
However you could install an older redhat and upgrade it by hand. Or
perhaps try another distro (i don't know about install memory usage for
other distros).

I've been given a mobo that can handle 2 p233mmx cpus and I'm
wondering if Mandrake 7.1 is automatically SMP enabled or do I have to
re-compile the kernel ???
Now a question about performance, I know every application might not
utilize both processors, and I won't see twice the performance over 1
p233mmx, but what should I expect ?
My other linux machines are a Cyrix 366 (2.5x100bus) AMD K6-2 350
(3.5x100) and now the p233mmx (3.5x66).
I would give the performance advantage to the machines with the faster
bus speeds, BUT the dual board has ultra-wide SCSI...so what do you
think ???
How would the dual board function as a server compared to the others?
How about some number crunching, like SETI, etc ???

I believe that the ata66 boot disk at http://zuul.slackware.com is different
from the one that came on the CD. The above website is sort of an "unofficial"
site that the Slackware developers use for experimental projects like autoslack.It's
not an "official" boot disk, but it was created by the Slackware developers.

What you want to do sounds feasible within my humble experience. Nightmare
with RH linux? I just put the boot disk in, rebooted, and away I went. The
difficulties arise when you bend the system to your wishes and then you
should pick up the book the RedHat Bible.

I've got samba 2.0.6 running on Red Hat 6.0. The server is in a simple
test network with a Windows 98SE client. Both run TCP/IP, and both have
LMHOSTS files with a list of hosts.
When I double click on Network Neighborhood in the Windows box, I can
see the Red Hat system and the shares in it, but when I try to connect
to the share, the system reports that the other host cannot be found.
The same is true if I use NET VIEW \\host_name.
As far as I can tell, both systems are establishing browse lists with
broadcasts, but - for whatever reason, fail to connect using another
name resolution method (presumably LMHOSTS).
Any ideas? My smb.config is shown below.

On the client do:
ssh-agent /bin/bash # Start a ssh-agent.
ssh-add # Add your pass phrase to the agent.
pvm-program # Run your pvm program.
The ssh-agent will take care of authentication so pvmd won't be
prompted for a password.
(Another alternative is to create a ssh key with an empty passphrase.
That could be a big security problem or maybe not depending on how
secure your network is and specifically how secure your $HOME/.ssh
directory is).

I am unable to find a "how to" on establishing a null modem serial
connection between a Win98SE/Win2K computer and a Linux computer.
There have been many posts confirming such connection, but no "step-by-step"
instructions on how to accomplish it.
I depleted the web search engines without success.
I search the "Linux Documentation Project" web site (the authority on Linux
information) without success.
Would someone please contribute to the Linux community by creating a web
page with a *detailed* step-by-step instructions on establishing a null
modem serial connection between a Win98SE/Win2K computer and a Linux
computer. And perhaps add to the Linux Documentation Project.

The way I have hosts and the http.conf set works offline just find ie;
