I'm not trying to help Intel sell net cards, but I have a Intel Pro/100B and
it always gets set up automatically under SuSE and Mandrake. Haven't tried
red hat, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

Ah-ha. Running MAKEDEV has given me all I need on the device front. Quite
why it wasn't done as part of the install is beyond me. Cheers.

Hi. I am having a problem setting up my monitor for use with GNOME/KDE (of
Red Hat Linux) on my NEC Versa VX notebook. I have tried to do it using
Xconfigurator, and have tried all the default monitor settings in Custom
Monitor Setup and also the NEC monitors in the Monitor Setup list, but none
of them work. The graphics card is 4MB ATI 3D Rage P/M Mobility.

I think a backup of your data if possible is the best course, followed
by reinstall.
-I would put the new drive on the primary IDE as master, move the old
drives to other positions, and remember to jumper all hard drives as
needed. Reinstall, setting appropriate mount points during the install
so you can access the old drives. Afterwards, pull any needed data off
the old drives that's salvageable, then discard the old drives, and edit
out their entries in /etc/fstab.
A good way to reduce problems like that in the future is to mount /home
on a separate partition and use it for your data. That way if you must
reinstall there's a good chance your data is intact.

There are other possible methods besides a formal reinstall, but since
one or more of your hard drives is suspect, I would not recommend them.

God I hate it when people say this. Usually in effort to make someone
look bad and make yourself look like you really, truly cared. If you knew
someone personally on that sub, I apologize. Otherwise, I somehow doubt
that you were actually grieving their loss. I don't even know any of their
names, so as of yet, it's a number in the headlines.
Besides, I'm sure the guy didn't find the deaths themselves amusing, he
was just writing a little humor to make fun of Microsoft.

Yes, that would be because startx starts up an X server on the local
host.

If you are trying to get your complete Linux desktop to display on the
Exceed system, you'll need to set the DISPLAY environment variable and
then run the script that starts your desktop. For example, with KDE
this will be /opt/kde/bin/startkde, which is what startx eventually
does after starting up the local X server.

Note that you will also need to set up Exceed to run using a "remote
window manager". Otherwise your window manager won't start because
Exceed is acting as a window manager.

configure your Ethernet card to use dhcp to get address from windows server
make sure applications don't try to dial if no connection (default)
and the Linux box should start using ICS

Keep cool -- your data normally will still be there. Just the pointers
to them (the partition table) has gone.

So you can go and start fdisk, cfdisk or whatever you like and
configure the disk _exactly_ as it was before. You must meet precisely
the same arrangement of starting and ending cylinders.

And nobody or nothing should get the idea to format the partitions
afterwards!

Just mount them and relax...

I've gone through this a few times, and Linux always helped me out. ,-)

booted into Linux and then NT can be started as process within Linux.

What is the name of that product and how may I obtain it?

Run 'df' to see how much disk space you have left on all mounted drives.
Maybe a partition is almost full (some is reserved for root so a user
cannot totally clog a drive).

See if 'xfs' is running. This usually serves the fonts through a fifo in
/tmp/.font-unix. I made the mistake of deleting that once and X stopped
working, but it worked again after rebooting.

But the choking print job and lack of font server could all be related to
a lack of remaining disk space.

What is /dev/modem linked to? And can you connect to /dev/modem and enter
AT commands with minicom? I suspect that /dev/modem might be linked to a
ttys (terminal) instead of ttyS (serial port). The port name is case
