The file /usr/include/bits/linux/errno.h is part of glibc-devel

Supporting ANY USB device requires DEVICE-SPECIFIC drivers -- you need a
different driver for a USB mouse, a USB camera, a USB modem, etc. I
think I heard that somebody was working on a driver for the SpeedStream
4060, but I could be mistaken. Check http://www.linux-usb.org/ and its
device support list for details.

There is no single device file for a USB port. Instead, there's a device
file for each USB device. You'll need to check documentation for each
driver for details.

Thanks a lot for your answer.

I will examine the two tools you mentioned. From the description it seems,
that they could help me, since the partitions I want to shrink are both FAT
partitions.

I have had good luck with RedHat 6.x finding Intel EtherExpress 100+ cards
but that card is found by most every distro I have tried. With debian I
just load the module when I do a floppy installation and it finds it.
Irregardless of how it "detects" it, it will still place a kernel module in
use for the card.

I run two of the Intel cards here for my firewall/NAT box, and all my
desktops with the exception of a prebuilt run the eepro. My redhat box
actually runs a davicom ethernet card.

We need more info in order to help. If you are running a recent Redhat
or Mandrake (the only ones I have experience with), something called
"kudzu" runs at boot time, and tries to detect any changes in hardware
configuration. I guess I would start with whether this detected a
change.

Have a look at /var/log/messages to see if there are lines indicating
that the kernel saw the drive.

Beyond that, you would need to post information such as whether you have
IDE or SCSI drive, the result of "ls -l /dev/cdrom" (this is usually a
link to something else, like /dev/hdc). If you know the details, it
would be nice to know how your kernel is configured for the IDE or SCSI
CD-ROM drivers. Is it supposed to load the drivers as modules?

Subject: AIC-7XXX problem (infinite reset)
Date: Sun, 17 Sep 2000 15:24:04 GMT

Hi,

I just bought a Dell 2400 server with dual 733s and AIC-7890 SCSI and
AIC-7880. I installed RedHat 6.2 and everything went perfect, no
problems.

The after rebuilding the kernel (2.2.14 - monolithic) with the correct
scsi support and smp I began having problems with my scsi devices.
Specifically the 7890 went into an infinite reset loop. Here's my scsi
config and the error messages:

On scsi0 (AIC-7890) is the main hard drive and the 1x6 backplane scsi
expansion board.

On scsi1 (AIC-7880) is the cdrom.

Error Messages:

SCSI host 0 abort (pid 0) timed out - resetting
SCSI host 0 channel 0 resetting (pid 0) timed out - trying harder

I then enter the following at the lilo prompt: linux aic7xxx=verbose:2
and get the additional message:

(scsi0:0:0:0) missed busfree

Again, with stock RedHat6.2 out-of-the-box this configuration works
fine (It also continues to work when I booted from my image floppy
after attempting the new kernel).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

This particular driver.upp, stc600pl.upp, is only a low color config
file. 5 bits per color. If you want more colors, use the stc600ih.upp
variation with its 21 bits of color per color controls, which also runs
the printer at maximum its resolution and will be *considerably* slower.

There is, within all these .upp drivers, a lookup table that is used to
translate the colors. This table deals in ink colors, magenta, yellow,
cyan and black, not primaries as most people think in. This makes
adjusting the color difficult for me, and I do have color negative
darkroom experience. In your case, I think I'd attack the entries for
magenta with a calculator, multiplying each value in that line of the
file by 1.1. If thats in the right direction, do it again until its
obvious that this isn't the right color to be playing with. At some
point, you'll want to back up one step in the magenta entries, and
switch to the yellow entries to fine tune it.

Obviously one should make a copy of it for recovery purposes before
editing it, and another when its better each time.

Cheers Kevin, Gene

0. Recompile your kernel, making sure to include framebuffer support.
It's under Console Drivers->Support for framebuffer devices->VESA VGA
framebuffer support.

1. Boot this new kernel, and put "vga=771" in the LILO: bootprompt line.
You can edit /etc/lilo.conf to put that line in with the new kernel
image (vga=771 in the image= section for the new kernel)

That will give you about 100x37, plus a bootup penguin logo, and it will
most likely work around that graphics bug. vga=773 will give you more
resolution, but the font gets small and hard to read there.

The SVGATextMode stuff doesn't work very well and seems to be
unmaintained... I don't suggest using it. If you want the most
flexibility possible, of course, use X. xterms can be dynamically
resized and you can have lots of them on the screen at once, which can
actually be nicer than "screen". Plus, there's that GUI thing... try as
you might, it's difficult to use GIMP on the console.

Question: Does someone have a good printcap file (or give me some help
setting one up) to feed an Apple LaserWriter 630 over network both with
and without Samba?

I have a small home network of linux and windows machines. I recently
got an old Laserwriter Pro 630 that i'm setting up. Since it has
ethernet (appletalk) cabability built in, I wanted it on the network. I
decided to have one of my old linux boxes set up with appletalk and use
it as a remote print server (directly for the other linux boxes and
through samba for the windows boxes). I got it working and in general
it is doing great except for some small glitches that seem to be related
to the printcap file or the way samba drives it.

Postcript from any of the linux boxes prints fine. From a windows box,
I have to disable the ctrl-d that the windows laserwriter driver sends
at the end of file (note this only occurs when sending over samba, if
sending to a machine hooked to the LW through parallel port (apsfilter)
i have no such problem). Printing asci (like from my mail program) from
a remote linux box often gets illegal character errors. These errors
don't occur when printing local through appsfilter.

I think my problem is with the netatalk filters and I haven't found the
right docs to get me straight. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Hi Lucas,

I've an similar situation like yours, I've got a LAN with 10 PC's and one
linux box with redhat 6.2 installed on it. I use IP masquerading to let the
LAN acces the internet. For the ppp connection to the ISP I use pppd. It has
an options file and if you add a line with 'demand' it dials on demand
whenever there's traffic for the internet. You can also add a line with
'idle xx' which will cause the ppp link to shutdown when there is an
inactivity of xx seconds. There are several usefull HOWTO's. I used the
IP-MASQUARADE-HOWTO, the PPP HOWTO and some other docs.

Good luck
