I have RedHat Linux 7.0.
I get an error when I type "make". It says that "make" command cannot
be found because the C compiler may not have been installed.
Originally, I chose the custome installation, and it's possible that
I did not install the compiler. How can I install the C compiler after
installation of the operating system?
Thanks.

I don't think you need a real floppy drive to do that. The vmware-tools
install from a virtual floppy drive. Just follow the procedure, and it
should work:

http://www.vmware.com/support/linux/doc/quickstart_2_rpm_linux/install_tools.html

Does anybody have any pointers for setting up an IPSec-based VPN for
Masquerading with RH 7.0? I have regular masq working, and can perform key
exchange (udp), but am unable to get the ipsec packets to be sent out the
public nic. The ipsec packets (protocol 50) are being logged as
masqueraded, but I don't see lights flashing to indicate that packets are
going out (I do easily see the lights flash when I send regular - a.k.a.
tcp, udp, or icmp - packets out.)

(already checked the vpn-masq howto)

thanks!

RH 7.0 just needs to have ip forwarding turned on and masq will work fine-
no need for recompile or anything. I did the same thing last week - if you
watch the messages that come up when you run your script for ipfwadm (now
ipchains), you should see a message telling you to enable ip forwarding. I
just turned it on the the config file.

Arctic Storm,

Your C compiler is probably allready installed. If you don't know where it
is, do a "which cc" or "which gcc" to find out where it is installed (it
is probably somewhere under /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin).

Once you found out where it is, you can set a CC-variable to point to your
C compiler like this:

# export CC=/usr/bin/cc or /usr/bin/gcc (which one you prefer).
Do a echo $CC to see if is actually set now.

If you haven't got it installed, you can either download it from
http://gcc.gnu.org/ or install thr rpm from your RH7 cd.

rpm -vhU /mnt/cdrom/Redhat/RPMS/gcc*

This will install all the gcc's on your CD.

Hope this helps!!

Regards,

-Joost

I use Redhat 7.0.

The isdn-config / hisax does not recognise my Isdn card.

Hi Ray, thanks for your response. I also tried using pump (with help from the
how-to) but I was unable to find the command in any of my directories. I even
did a "find / -name pump" and found nothing. Where can I get this utility?

http://Redhat.com aught to have a pump rpm.
also

Tip: to find a file try locate exact_case_file_name_here
if it complains about the database, as root, updatedb

Examples: locate pump | grep -i bin
            locate onfi | grep bin/

Jeremy - Maybe it was more luck than knowledge, but this worked for me. Do as
you did under netconfig - set your eth0 to DHCP and select boot at start up.
Then go to /etc and add to your profile file DHCP_HOSTNAME=cxxxxxxxx - the id
number your cable set up gives you. Add to export just DHCP_HOSTNAME to
export it out. Then go to /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts and find ifcfg-eth0
file and add the line DHCP_HOSTNAME=cxxxxxxx - your id number again. Reboot
and that was all I did to have the DHCP working for me RH 7.0- on my laptop
with pcmcia ethernet card. Hang in there -- Jim

Did you try the E-tech website for the source code to use with linux? If it
is not there, send them a email requesting the source
code. Otherwise get technical assistance to recompile your code to use the
ISDN card.

I'm also having trouble with the Dialup Configuration; maybe you could also
assist with this. I have a US Robotics external 56K modem. I can set it up OK
and dial out. I also set it up to connect automatically on system startup.
When I reboot the machine, the modem doesn't dial out, and in the Dialup
configuration it states that the modem is connected, which it is not. Any
suggestions?

Thanks.

I am currently attempting to install Corel Linux Second Edition alongside
MS Windows 2000 Professional (G: partition)on a Gateway PIII 500 desktop
machine. Each time I reboot my computer, the setup completes the initial
portion of the graphical interface setup, and then prompts me through the
licence and user name selection windows. However after selecting my chosse
of desktop (I've attempted both standard and Advanced several times) setup
turns into a black screen, syas "Linux Install #," and ejects my CD-Rom,
and rebbots. If I leave the CD-Rom in, setup starts from scrtch. If I take
it out, my computer loads Windows.

What could be the Problem? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciatred.

 try in /etc/sysctl.conf:

net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1

I think you may have to reboot to get this to work, but not sure. I think
you can also config this setting at runtime in the /proc tree, but I forget
how...
