Yes I can, but I won't.
Search deja.com. This question has been asked so often, you can very
easily find an answer in previous posts/replies.

This is not your problem but '/dev/st0' is the auto rewind device,
'/dev/nst0' is the no rewind (Note: n) device.
What SCSI support do you have, modules and built-in? Also,
what kind of messages concerning the adapter and drive are in
'/var/log/messages'.
You should see something like this: (edited to break long lines)

Hi,
can anyone tell me, how to get an Seagate/"Archive-Phyton" Scsi DAT
streamer
working in SUSE Linux?
It is recognized in Bootup, but i can not reach this device within
Linux. If
it just for the model: I own an older HP-Streamer 2 GB w/o compression
too.

well, /dev/st0 should be the right device. It worked fpr me with an HP
DAT Streamer.
Any other devices, which could work can be found in
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/devices.txt.

Don't you need to modify INSTALL_PATH in the top Makefile in order
to get the new kernel at the right place? Else it would be put in /
instead of in /boot. And is the name correct?

Subject: Suse 6.4 Yast2 printer setup
Date: Mon, 09 Oct 2000 14:06:46 GMT
Hi all,
I've configured my printer (Epson Color Stylus 800) using the autodetection
feature in yast2 (I use SuSE 6.4). It looked as if all had worked well, but
this is a printer that is served to a Mac using netatalk. All works as
advertized, except:
- I can't get the printer to print in landscape mode (I can select all I
want on the Mac: no joy)
- How can I set the resolution ? The printer always prints in 360 dpi.
When I look in the printcap file, the filters that are used are not stc800
or stcany but some other (generic ?) filter. I searched the web for more
information on these filters but came up empty handed.
I used to have a printer queue for low resolution and another for
high-resolution (using yast and the stc800 filter, SuSE 6.2)
but after reinstalling my linux machine this appears to have changed.
Another related question: the colors appear much more dull when printing
using the linux box as server as compared to printing directly. How can I
correct this ?
Any help much appreciated,
Patrick

I didn't have the option of SSH as I could only telnet in via a proxy. I used

I have installed yesterday the same card with Mandrake 7.2beta without problem.
The module is indeed hisax. The clearest information about isdn install
was in the kernel source in /usr/src/linux/Documentation/isdn..., so
should not depend on the distro.
RH 7.0 has major flaws, btw, such as an incompatible gcc suite (a snapshot).

Well, I see the message in the Makefile says so, but I assure you, I
"cd /usr/src/linux" and "make install" and the stuff goes into /boot
and not / (I haven't got any files in / at all).
I just check the makefile and INSTALL_PATH is not used. I cannot find
the install: section, neither. It must be included from other
files. Ahh, found a reference in arch/i386/boot/Makefile where it
indeed is used.
I dont see why I end up having my files in /boot when I actually
haven't asked for it. They should end up in / but they dont.
Ahh, there it is. In /sbin/installkernel INSTALL_PATH is
overridden. arch/i386/boot/install.sh checks for that file and
executes it instead of itself (if you get that).
If you are installing the same kernel (just recompiled) then you wont
have to edit /etc/lilo.conf. If however you install a new kernel, you
will have to edit lilo.conf (and rerun /sbin/lilo).
And what name were you referring to?

Bernhard Ege
