Welcome to netscape :) My advice is download 4.75 or later if there is
one by now. Netscape is buggy as hell, and the probability of fixing 4.72
is very small.

You can do that by turning on the "Samba" modules by following the menus
below in "Linuxconf":

Hi,
Is their a place where I can get a beginners guide to qmail, which will
take me through step by step on how to install, configure and run qmail
on linux. (RH 7.0)
I've never dealt with qmail before, nor do I know which packages are
required to run.

have you tried hitting Caps Lock before choosing linux. I recall that I
had to do this on old setups, to make lilo pause. Not sure if that was a
default behaviour or if it was a manually altered setup(I didn't setup
those systems then)

Subject: Loading Linux with NT-Loader
Date: Mon, 16 Oct 2000 10:04:04 +0200
Hi,
I like to boot my Linux from the NT-Bootloader.
I've the following configuration (on my Laptop).
* One primary partition
* One extended partition
On the primary partition, I've installed Win98 (drive C:)
On the extended partition, I've installed Windows NT with FP5 (drive D:)
and a Linux partition. I've LILO installed on the
root-partition of Linux (/dev/hda7).
I'm able to boot Win98 and WinNT from the WinNT-Bootloader.
I created an image-file bootsek.lin
(dd if=/dev/hda7 bs=512 count=1 of=bootsek.lin)
and copied the file into the C:\ directory of Win98
and added the line c:\bootsek.lin="Linux"
into the file boot.ini
But if I select "Linux", nothing happends (blank screen).
If I change the line to d:\bootsek.lin="Linux" and copy
the file to D:\, WinNT tries to load WinNT and fails.
If I boot from a Linux-Boot-Disk and select /dev/hda7
as partition to load, it works.
Any help?
Thanks,
Lars

Hello,
I am looking for a recommendation about how to best obtain "large" file
support today, using SuSE 7. I really need stability before all.
I know about various options available : LFS, ReiserFS, XFS.
What I need today is at least 4gigabyte files, with good performance. My
hardware is RAID5 (I could go to RAID0 if performance can be
significantly bettered).
In a SuSE 7 I recently installed, I could create and read a large tar
file (3.2 gigabyte), but many usual tools seem to be still limited to
smaller files.
Are these limitations absent from other files systems ?
Thanks for any advice.

I doubt you got the right code in bootsek.lin
Where did lilo write the bootcode? (see you lilo.conf) (I suspect
/dev/hda2)
(look at the code with a hex viewer (mc eg.) at position 06h you should
be able to read LILO in ascii)

Hi all,
I have an Epson Color Stylus 800 printer connected to my linux box (SuSE

print something from the Mac it always comes out in portrait even if in the

landscape). The file even contains a header line like "%%orientation

Any suggestions are welcome.

No, it's NOT a FS limitation.
If these apps aren't compiled with your glibc (and the 64 bit
extensions) They cannot make use of the larger files. The limitation is
a hardware limit of your processor (32 bits). If you would use a 64 bits
processor you would not have this limit. The LFS extensions are a
(trick) way around this limitation.

Although it is possible if you change some settings, you cannot and should
not ever open a unix shell (telnet, ssh, etc) as root. This is a security
risk, not to mention very bad form. You should create a user, telnet into
your box as that user, then su to root. The root account should not be used
as your everyday account, but rather to perform tasks which an ordinary user
cannot perform (ie. adding users, mounting removable media, etc)

No, in lilo.conf is written /dev/hda7

Good idea! I will try this. Maybe LILO was not
written....

To add to that, you can even allow users to mount specific filesystems
(floppies, cdroms, zips, etc.) by specifying it in /etc/fstab. By setting
up a group e.g. cdrom and making the device only readablem and writable by
that group, only users inn that group can access the device. Your
distribution should probably provide some way of doing this. See fstab(5)
for more details.
