I am not familiar with the HP 4p. I do have an HP 4L connected to
a MS WIndows 95 computer that I print to from both Linux and Solaris.
If this is a MS Windows only printer, then you may be out of luck.
If it it just a standard HP printer that understands PCL, then you
should have no problems. If you just want to print text, then you
should not have to do anything special. If you want to print
Postscript files from Netscape, etc, then you need to install
ghostscript.
Search for the Linux Printing How-To maintained by Grant Taylor.
It covers all of this.

I use two network interface card(NIC)--D-link220,ne2000

devices , but when i use drakconf of mdk7.0 to set up NICs,
drakconf will popup a window to tell me "The command
'S10network reload' execution time is too long",then it ask
for me to skip or kill this command, even after i use only
one card(d-link220,eth0),mdk still have same error, but when i
into the red hat,it can correctly set up the d-link220.
( should i need to debug the file /etc/rc.d/init.d/network,which

And when i boot into mdk7.0,it will locked at below command:

Yes, it does seem to be broken when you delete a connection. See if
deleting that entry from /etc/wvdial.conf helps.

You must edit /etc/lilo.conf. Where you have 'boot /dev/hda6' change it to
'boot /dev/hda3' /dev/hda3 is extended and /dev/hda6 is logical.
After you do that and save it, run 'lilo'. You will have to be root to do
both of these things.
I'm still not clear on whether or not you have to put
a bootable flag on /dev/hda3. I think you do. That would mean you would
have to run 'fdisk /dev/hda', 'a' (to toggle bootable flag), 3 (the
partition number), and 'w' (to write the partition table update). I've
never put lilo in something other than the mbr; so I don't know. You could
try not putting the flag in and see if it boots. If not, then you can try
putting it in.
Did you try putting it on a floppy, btw?
Can someone tell me what happens if you have the regular windows bootloader
or whatever it has in the mbr and lilo in another boot sector? Does the
system bypass the mbr and run lilo? Why doesn't it boot windows? I thought
the mbr would take priority. Must you take off the bootable flag on
/dev/hda1?

You are most likely having trouble b/c kppp uses
the pppd program in /usr/sbin. You have to
change the permisions on pppd to allow users
other than root to read and execute this
program. Also, the pppd program must be run as
the root user, hence the setuid (also a file
permission). There is probably a much better way
of doing this that i don't know about... hope
this helps any way.

I had the same problems as you. Manually reinstalling Grub did
not work. What you have to do is run the install script :
sh /boot/grub/install.sh (I think this is it, I'm not on my Linux box
at the moment)
This will reinstall Grub as your default bootmanager.

I have efax working quite nicely with the fax script and the kde
interfaces kfax and ksendfax, for sending and viewing faxes.
But for receiving faxes, I can only do 'fax receive' from a terminal,
which seems only to do an immediate manual receive. The problem with
this is, if the fax comes a minute or so later, the receive facility has
timed out.
Documentation seems pretty thin for efax, only the man page and one
howto.
Does anyone know wether there is a 'wait' option?

It's the best way to refer each latest log files first.
I've met a similar problem in office. I've checked and the problem is
related to 'squid', which is cache for all incoming home pages. The file
numbers is overrunned. After I modify the file 'squid.conf' to decrease the
file size and the problem is solved.

In RH 6.2 I host about 10 domains on a server. I'm trying to set up e-mail for
forms on the web sites I have the following issue. All of the domains receive
mail on another server not the web server. Yet when I try and mail to one of
the domains that's web hosted, it mails it local if the username exists on the
box and gives me a user not found if it doesn't. If I try and mail to a non
hosted domain, the mail gets there just fine.
I can't find anywhere where it might be finding this. I ditched the sendmail
that came with rh 6.2, deleted all the configs, downloaded the latest sendmail
and configged it. Same problem. I did not have this issue on my 5.2 box that I
just migrated from.
Next question. Sendmail is no longer controlled by linuxconf since it breaks
the config, where do I put the startup command. I'm having a total brain freeze
after getting lazy with linux conf for starting and stopping things. Used to go
in etc/rc.d or something but it's just not coming to me.

The reports of bugginess are greatly exaggerated IMO. I'm running it on my
work machine and my home machine, and while I did have some problems doing
an upgrade, I haven't had any problems with a fresh install.
The caveat is that I work for Red Hat (in support). But I've been using it
since version 3.3, so I have some perspectives on some buggy releases (like
5.0 or 6.0...shudder). 7 is pretty good IMO.
Make sure you get the most up to date ISOs, though.

No real problems here. A few quirks, and configuration differences. Some
changes that require re-learning a bit (eg xinetd). There is always
bugs. But no show stoppers that I've found.
