OK that worked a little better. I did what you said, typed; grep
httpd.conf -r /
But then it starts printing all this stuff to the screen. Abunch of
directories and "no file found...". How do I just get it to tell me
where the file is located? Thanks so much.

I had to upgrade my board's BIOS before Linux would automatically pick up the
right amount of RAM. This was on an ASUS K7M, so YMMV.

Yes. It was working just fine before I upgraded from RedHat 6.2 to
RedHat 7.0 (with updates). This is on an ASUS K7V with the latest BIOS
update.

Thanks Hal,
I have removed it form runlevel 5 for now to see it this is the "probleem".
Wat I don't understand is, that when I type apm, it says that the kenel
doesn't support apm !!!
So why could this be the problem as the kernel doesn't support it ?

If you get no's when trying to run ./configure you might be missing the gcc
compiler. Go to you CD and look for a package called gcc(something). I'm
using Redhat so I would install it using rpm with a syntax like the
following:
rpm --install gcc(something)

If you want to locate a file on the system, you use find. "grep"
is used to find lines in a file that match a pattern.
use "find / -name httpd.conf". Note if you're not the root, you
will get a lot of error messages about unreadable directories.
Try "find / -name httpd.conf 2>/dev/null" instead to discard the
error messages.
Setting up apache requires knowing what you want to set it up for.
an ISP? A student server? a corporate web site? I suggest you're
best bet is to get a good book on apache in any case, a how-to isn't
really goind to provide the level of detail you seem to need/want.

Subject: Re: how do you set bind to run www.something.com the same as
Date: Mon, 06 Nov 2000 17:07:48 -0500
You can't, as one is a domain name and one is a host name. But,
you can set up email to respond to user@domain as if the email were
sent to user@host. Is that what you wanted? If so you need to
configure sendmail.
Note this works only because the DNS/BIND system specifically allows
MX (email) records. This is why you never see a URL for
http://something.com, only for http://www.something.com. As far as
I know DNS doesn't provide arbitrary aliases from a domain name to
a specific host name.

I am using vncserver and want to startup multi x server sessions.
If I have started an X server with startx I cannot use startx again as

What should I do?

Greetings all....
A few months ago I had posted about problems with our Dell PowerEdge
6300 and PERC/2 raid controller with RH6.2.... after no help from Dell
or Redhat, I just disabled the RAID controller and put our 4 18 gig
drives on the standard SCSI controller...
We've just purchased a bunch of RH7.0 Pro Server packages from Redhat
(yeah I know they're free, but I support paying people for their
efforts, so I always buy the pro packages for each machine we run RH
on)...
anyhow - I'd like to start taking advantage of the PERC/2 controller...
does RH7.0 use it out of the box (meaning, did they put the CORRECT
drivers on the CD to start with???). And second (my ignorance), I've
never set up RAID.... will Linux just see the 4 drives as one BIG
drive, and the PERC card controls everything else?
anyone who might be able to email me and give me some pointers would be
greatly appreciated..... if this install is successfull, there will be
another govt. agency using Redhat in place of windows for many server
apps.
thanks again for any advice!

Jeff,
I installed Lnx4win on my Gateway2000 Solo laptop. I found when I
download the software and tried to rename the folder in dos it came up
with the same error. I cured the problem by downloading in windows and
changing the directory within windows and doubleclicked the setup.exe file
within windows explorer. It worked great. Since then I have had to
reload lnx4win 4 times because of several different reasons (not because
of linux), mostly because of the Windows OS problems and a HDD failing. I
installed it the same way and it has worked every time.

Hi.
I'm attempting to install alsa 0.5.6 on my linux box (2.2.14 / mandrake

I run "./configure" and "make install" in the driver and lib directories
and everything seems ok. When I "make install" in the utils directory

Is there a way to put this value in /etc/syslog.conf or do I need to

I think some distributions do this.
