After experiencing problems with compiling the RedHat-supplied sources I
discovered that doing a 'make mrproper' before 'make menuconfig' helped a lot.

Get the latest version of your distro you like. The older kernel has
trouble with the 32G harddisk.
I had RH6.2. I tried to format the last 20G of my 40G hard drive. I left
it format overnight, but it never completed.
I had have the 10G formatted for linux and left 10G at the end of the hard
disk not used at all.
I now have RH7.0 and now I can use the last 20G of my 40G hard drive.

At a command line enter "gnomecc". This will start the gnome control
center.

The /bin/sh is included in the "bash" rpm package.

Have you tried using /sbin/lilo

Also you mention using "cd" and "ls" to see the lilo command. If you are
in the "/sbin" directory when issuing the command you need to put the
"./" in front of it like this "./lilo"

Hi!

I broke two fingers on my left hand while training for a kickboxing
match. It's very difficult for me to type right now, with splints and
tape, etc.

Is there a vendor out there that provides one of the following:

1. A "one hand" input device? I recall seeing a single-hand
stenographer-like gadget a while ago.

2. An input pad like the one on Palm/Visor devices that recognizes
Graffitti?

I'm looking for something that will allow me to enter A-Z, 0-9,
backspace, caps, and punctuation. Preferably compatible with the
standard PC keyboard socket (must plug it to an ABCD Belkins MKV switch;
I have to manage 4 computers using the same mouse, keyboard, and
monitor).

Thanks in advance!

Hugs,

Gena Bleu

Check out Hard Hat Linux (www.mvista.com) from Montavista Software. I'm
working on a project using it in a single board, 386 computer w/flash
file system+ROMs. I believe most of their stuff is available for free
download (including infos).

That's very rude. If you post information on a public forum, you should
expect the answer here as well so others can share on your problem and
solution.

Cheers,

Hi,

I try applying the ATA100 patch from www.linux-ide.org site to my RH7
(2.2.16-22) kernel source tree, but I keep getting and error "Enter patch

"patch -p0 < patchfile" from the /usr/src directory.

Any suggestion?

Hi all,

I'm attempting to install RH6.2 on a Compaq Proliant 1500 with a Compaq
Smart2/E array controller. The problem I get is that when I run the
installation...it gets up to the point where you select what type of
installation you need (Gnome Workstation, Server...) and then fails. The
next screen reads "An error has occured - no valid devices were found on
which to create new filesystems. Please check your hardware for the cause of
this problem"
But there does not appear to be any hardware problems because Windows NT
Server had no troubles installing on it.
Please....if you have any advice to offer please do, as I am in serious need
of help here! :)

Thanks very much,

Hi :)))

Yesterday I found the same troubles and had to kill Win 2K because it
apparently locks MBR for modifications
(the nature of this phonomemon is not clear to me). When I installed Linux
on the hard drive which contained pure
MS DOS installation and then Win 2K was mounted it started working. I simply
tell LILO that I want to load dos and after this NTloader appears. (I'm
using RH Linux 6.1 and its installer told about impossibility to modify
MBR).

Good luck

I think you really have to put things into proper perspective here.
Quite often people scan a group of IPs looking for the last person to occupy
that address. Maybe they want to play a game, maybe something a little more
serious but the fact is... Your firewall is there to stop them unless you give
your permission.

The best thing to do is just chill out... System administrators turn off the
monitoring facility of firewalls once they are satisfied their rules work...
What about you?

Subject: ncr53c8xx and wd 8013 NIC problem
Date: Wed, 08 Nov 2000 09:29:43 GMT

Hello

I have a problem with my ncr53c810 card (Asus SC200) and a SMC Elite 16
T network card (WD 8013). My machine runs under Debian Linux 2.2 and it
uses the ncr53c8xx driver which is compiled into the kernel. When the
NCR-bios of the motherboard is turned on the NIC is not working although
the wd.o module is loaded correctly and the eth0 interface is up. When I
turn the SDMS-bios support off everything works fine. At the moment I'm
booting from floppy and I can mount the SCSI partitions but I can't boot
from SCSI. So how to solve the SDMS-bios problem? Is it possible that
the bios is interfering with the memory of my NICs?

My NICs are on:
eth0: irq=10, io=0x300, mem=0xCC000
eth1: irq=3, io=0x280, mem=0xD0000
