In order to take advantage of the sis 6326 chip acceleration, you need to
run XFree86 >=4.0.
Loaded beta 4.0 early this year, diaplay ran fine at 16 bpp depth but
wouldn't support 24 bpp. Now am using stable release of 4.0.1, 24 bpp
works fine.

It's a bit hard to understand your problem and you have a strange way of
replying, but I'll give it another try.
You get to LI
meaning that the second stage loader failed
This usually means the the kernel is beyond cyl. 1024. But do I assume
correctly that hdb1 is your /boot?
Than it must be the fact that the geometry the BIOS finds and the geometry
that LILO (it got these values from linux) uses are different. (It can boot
from floppy, 'cause you probably copied the kernel to floppy too)
When the kernel runs, the problem is gone because the only LBA addressing is
used
Either you tell the BIOS the values linux is going to use, or tell LILO the
geometry it should use. Perhaps there's an option with LILO to supply fake
values for the geometry, and else boot from the floppy, and tell *that*
kernel hdb=C,H.S
Now you can rerun LILO and try to boot from HDD again.

Hi there..
having the same problem here...
but one more question: how to setup sendmail via m4 macro script ?
..since I changed system from SuSE to RH6.2 I never got sendmail right
to function ( I had it before..) At this point, and regardless your
hint of having a look on www.sendmail.org, I want to ask you guys
whether someone has a "somehow-final-ready-to-install-version" of a m4
script, which gives at least some basic hints on how to construct a
functional sendmail.cf.
I also was looking for a config, to have sendmail run as mailserver,
but allowing the local users instead to send mail locally and via
smtp, while masquerading their domain names, and changing there
mail/username for use for different POP-Server but mine. Accessing a
external POP-Server would also need a seperate database for different
passwords, because they are different from them I did setup
locally. How would the syntax be in such database ?
In SuSE I got this to work by genericstable I think, but I got absolutely
no glue how to setup such feature on my new RH system. Or, guess there
is are similar feature I could use in m4-scripts ? Can at least give
me someone a hint on how to use such tricky undertakings to proceed in
one step furder to have sendmail fully functional ? hmm...
thx. Alex

I have a question according to a ssh-connect.
What means following error-msg. (It appears right after login attempt
with ssh 'name'@'host')
warning: Need basic cursor movement capablity, using vt100
warning: Authentication failed.
Disconnected; MAC error (Message authentication check fails.).
Do I use a different ssh-version then then that one installed on this

Question: I really love my boot floppy. It is the only way I can boot into
linux.
Why can't I just use
# dd if=/dev/fd0 of= [please tell me]
to plaster it onto somewhere just right in the hard drive?
Then I could remove the boot floppy and boot from hard drive, eh?
I've tried for months to configure Mandrake 7.2 grub/lilo already.

In your /etc/inittab is a line like this:
ca::ctrlaltdel:/sbin/shutdown -t3 -r now
replace the -r by a -h, and it'll do what you want.

Im moving from a dying (3 month old) HD (Seagate ata II 20.4G, mind you)

Im taking the opportunity to upgrade from RH6.2 to RH7.0.
Can I simply take from my dying disk the tuned configuration files for my

for the video card / screen?
the modem?
the printer?
sound card?
more?
If so I'd appreciate if you could tell me which files to take
(unless i can do some recursive diff between the tow HDs)
If this is stated all too clearly in any RH publication - just point me there.

Yes, I hadn't noticed that, I just updated to PuTTY v0.50
and it has new options for the F key mode:
ESC[~n_, linux, Xterm R6, VT100.
(ESC[~n_ makes F10 work for me in mc, etc.)
Also ver 0.50 no longer specifies that the settings only apply
to the F1-F5 keys (as in ver0.48) so it may include all F-keys.
Perhaps the newer version will work better for you.

Hmmm, all the F-keys just work for me, though I don't use the Suse
installer so I can't check if it works for that.
