Dear colleagues,

I am new in Linux world. I would like to operate an old CD Rom which
connected to a sound card. (I think it's only work if I connected the CD
via sound card under Windows 95/DOS). How to do it under Linux OS?

FYI, I use RedHat 6.2.

Thank you.

You need to make a link to the script in the appropriate runlevel
directory(ies).
The first character of the name uses S for start and K for kill and the
next two digits to sequence the various scripts in the directory.

To the OP:

A quick websearch on the phrase "Unable to load interpreter" brings up
a number of pages, including
http://linuxperf.nl.linux.org/general/common.html, which describes the
message and it's remedy.

Perhaps you should check out the webpage and see if it can help you.

HI,

Thanks for responding.

The mouse is exactly what is causing the problems.

As soon as I click in the other window, I now have selected
something else. I have to go back and reselect.
So, I end up concentrating on hand eye
coordination, instead of what I am working on.
I could never have done this when I injured my hand.

Are there any telnet windows with the Edit menu, and the
Cut and Paste commands?

Thanks

ok, that's the info I was missing. Burning an "image" is much different
from burning a file. Got it. Thanks a million.

Thanks for chastising me. I really appreciate that. And I think "begging"
was a bit of an unecessary embellishment. It was a simple question from my
simple mind. Sorry to bother you.

The HOWTO has some good scripts in it and there are packages that can put
together scripts from questions that are asked during the set up. I've
used pmfirewall and have been happy with it.

X's copy and paste is far superior to 'doze, once you get the hang of it.
You do not need to click in the window into which you are pasting if you
have the focus set to mouse over. If you don't have the focus set to mouse
over, click on the _edge_ (border) of the window to get focus, then just
hold the cursor over the window, *don't click in it*, then middle click to
paste. That's much more efficient than using menus, and yeah, I know, old
habits are hard to break, so give yourself a chance to get accustomed to it.
Practice makes perfect. :-)

Sounds like Win '98 switched IRQ's on you and Linux doesn't know about
it.

Go into Win '98 and look at the IRQ setting for your Network card.

Make sure it matches what Linux has configured.

Subject: Loading kernel modules for scsi tape with RH 7.0
Date: Wed, 06 Dec 2000 13:37:28 -0500
Reply-To: tgm

Linux documentation is driving me nuts (or the lack of)! I've been
trying for some time now to figure out how to properly load the
appropriate kernel modules to attach and use my tape drive. But the
documentation is as clear as mud.

>From what I can determine, I will need to add some information into
/etc/modules.conf but some things are unclear. The scsi controller is
an old Future Domain tmc-1660 that has been working just fine in other
os environments. It uses i/o base 0xca00 and irq 11. From what I can
tell I need something like "alias scsi fdomain" added to /etc/modules
.conf, but how do I add the necessary i/o and irq parameters? It also
appears that the st.o module needs to be added, but I'm somewhat
clueless regarding what this alias line will require and how to handle
the obvious dependency with the scsi controller module. I don't want
to recompile the kernel and the modules. My preference is to create a
new /etc/rc.d/init.d script to handle the loading during bootup. I
looked at the lilo docs, but from what I can determine, there are some
issues with attempting to pass the fdomain parameters into a module
with lilo where the driver is not compiled into the full kernel.

Assuming you good people can give me guidance that will get the
modules loaded properly, I have a few questions regarding accessing
the tape drive. Will /dev/st0 automatically cause hardware
compression on an HP Surestore 6000 (DDS2) tape drive to be used, or
do I have to use some other device in /dev?

I guess I must be spoiled with the way that AIX and HPUX deal with
hardware. Granted, the engineering groups have a lot more controlled
environment in terms of supported devices, so I sort of expect 'more
configuration required'. The thing that's exasperating is the lack of
clear documentation to get it done. Thank for your help,

Tim

Quit cross posting to so many groups and use just one or two relevant groups!
Cross posting to more than 2-3 groups is considered bad netiquette. Your

Configure it. It needs at least to know your host name and domainname
