I have never seen a Sparcprinter so keep that in mind, but I think
these printers may require special hardware to operate.

I typed sparcprinter in http://www.google.com and came up with links
on how to get them to work in Solaris but it looks to me like you
need a special sbus card for the printer to plug into.

If your Redhat workstation is a typical PC (386, 486, etc) system,
then I can guarantee that you do not have an sbus slot. If you have
a Sun Sparc (IPC, IPX, Sparc 4, Sparc 5, Sparc 10, Sparc 20, and
others), then you have a machine with sbus slots.

I'm running Linux in the DOS loop configuration on my PC. I'd like to
increase the size of the DOS loop that I initially allocated for Linux. Can
anyone tell me what the process is to do that?

Thanks!

Just click on the button Auto Allocate, the setup will partition it
automatically for you.

Depends mostly on what you want to do with it. Do you do any developing?
If so, the Debian one is probably the best simply because it sounds like
the other two are binary only CDs, so you'd have to download the source for
everything. Whereas the Debian CD would at least have the source for
almost all the software that came in binary form. Except for the pay
packages of course. SuSE tends to give you MUCH more software in the full
version, but I have no idea what the eval one would include. On the other
hand, you do get a lot more software, but a lot of it is pre-alpha
development code, so if stability is an issue for you and you aren't a
developer, a lot of the SuSE software will be of little to no use to you.

Thanks for the advice. I did try 0x240 and you know what ? IT'S WORKING!!!!

About printing....
Do you think i can do any damage to my printer or my system if i try the
wrong driver
with my printer
(i thought i might try a BJ200 driver with my BJC6200, and see how it goes)
?

It is. That's all you need to do. The cd / is not necessary either.

It works fine (despite your inability to carry out the command you said

Hello,
I have a Voodoo 3 3000 and use it with KDE 2.0 and Mandrake 7.2. I have
also had no joy in running RH on this system but am very happy with
Mandrake. Probably not very useful but just to let you know your hardware
is probably fine.

Subject: Epson printer problem
Date: Sun, 17 Dec 2000 16:50:07 +0100

I bought an Epson stylus color 680, and hung it on my Linux PC (SuSE
6.4) through the parallel port: it only prints chinese.
My old HP-DJ-550C worked fine (and I use the same parallel cable); I
tried both the old BSD lpd and lpr-ng; of course I re-started the lpd,
and turned the printer off and on, several times.
I used Yast to install the printer, with apsfilter. The entries it made
in printcap look reasonable. For lack of a better choice, I chose
"epsonc" printer, and manually changed the default resolution from
360x180 to 600x600.

Any advice on getting Epson printers to work with Linux are welcome.

Help,

I need to change the following parameters in my kernel. (Redhat 7.0 distro)
for a new Oracle database.
(SHMMAX, SHMMIN, SHMMNI,SHIMSEG, SEMMSL, SEMMNS, SEMOPM, SEMUNX)

I searched numerous websites and newsgroups for some 7.0 specific
documentation/instructions
on where and how to change the above parameters. From what I've read, the
kernel needs to be rebuilt
but none of the emails or notes suggested how to exactly do this...arg!!!

Can anybody help or suggest some good step by step notes?

Cheers,

erm, I think for the TrackMan Marble+ it probably has to be:

That created a painful situation the details of which I forgot,
so I pasted together this slob job[?]

(setq jidanni-scroll-distance 4)
(defun jidanni-scroll-up ()
  (interactive)
  (scroll-up jidanni-scroll-distance))
(defun jidanni-scroll-down ()

OK, muchos gracias to you Mr. Mark Flacy, you got my 'TrackMan Marble+' rolling
[though it just will never be as smooth as in win98: do a quick jerk backwards
during a forwards roll, tisk.] Say, where's the win98 Logitech feature of
'smart mouse' or whatever, where it automatically puts the pointer over the
'yes' or default button of choices?

You can do no damage at all to your printer (or your computer) in the
electrical sense. On the other hand, if there is a BJC6200 command for
"mangle my worm drives", and that's the BJ200 command for "new line",
then you know what will happen.

Have a look at www.linux-ide.org, you can find patches there for stock
2.2.1x kernels and for 2.4.0-test series.

As for the sound card, not sure about that I'm afraid.

My guess is that you're going to have a bad linux experience using any of
those three, not so much because of who they are but what they are. You can
get better versions

I'd add a fourth choice and try to get the latest version of Mandrake. You
can download it and burn a CD as an .iso very easily.

There are no 'pay' packages in Debian. All Debian packages are free.
There are 'binary-only' Debian CD's, but the sources for all Debian
packages are available at www.debian.org (as are all Debian binary
packages). 2.0 includes about 2000 packages. The current stable release,
2.2r2, includes about 4000, while unstable contains about 5000 right now.

I suggest that Mr. Staber purchase a set of Debian 2.2r2 CD's from one of
the many Web vendors. 2.0 is rather old.
