Hi,
I installed RH linux 6.1 on a Sony PCG-Z505LS notebook, in order to make
X work, I had to
add a line in the lilo.conf, hence needed to re-run lilo, after that
WinMe didn't boot anymore,
I can still see the dos entry at LILO prompt, and it just hangs when
selected. Linux boots fine.
RH Linux 6.1 (kernel 2.2.12-20) does not support USB (the floppy drive
is connected thru USB port).
I tried to unload lilo by lilo -u, it didn't seem to work (lilo still
there, and still boots fine to Linux).
WinME CDs (recovery and the basic) don't boot. If I could somehow
recover windows, I'll
use loadlin to load linux from windows, that seems a safer way to have
to OS on one disk.
Could somebody help me to recover Windows without losing (re-installing)
Linux? (I can't even
create a bood disk to floppy).
Thanks,

I assume you are running an X login, like KDE or Gnome... it's a lot harder
than it should be. With a console or telnet login, the files you modified
(either one) should have done it. Most likely your GUI login isn't making
your shells "login shells", so they don't run profiles. Try adding the
path in ~/.bashrc - assuming your login shell really is bash, it will
run this script for non-login interactive shells.

It could be the eth0 at the end. It's been a fair while since I've read the
docs, however I thought those options went into /etc/dhcpcd.conf IIRC along
a syntax like "interface eth0", then just use the command /sbin/dhcpcd -h
co1234567-a

I thought that was how you specified host, but I could be thinking of pump.
If you still having further problems I'll see how mines setup when I get
home tonight.

Matthew:
Search for a file called "ifup" on your hard drive. Edit this file,
and replace the call to pump near the bottom of the file with the call
to dhcpcd exactly as it works for you. Your network settings should
configure themselves at bootup then. Let me know if this works.

Hi !
How would I know that the time diff comes under the category "big jump" or
"small jump". Syr for example, Server A is 1 day behind and Server B is 5 day
ahead of the correct time, and I use ntpd, how much time would they take to
come into sync and how "big/small" would be the jumps...

In dos, you will need to use your Windows/dos Boot floppy, type:
fdisk /mbr
When you installed RH 6.1 you did make a boot floppy right?
On RH CD there is a document and a program in /images called
RAWRITE.*
you can use to create a boot floppy for linux.
Boot up linux and create a new lilo or create a boot floppy
for your system. In some systems the command mkbootdisk is
available. See the Boot Disk How-to for more help. I don't
recommend using loadlin with WinME, but if you must read the
loadlin docs on your CD or the Loadlin How-to.

If you want to really be safe, get a second hard drive and install
Linux on it. Then during the Linux installation have LILO installed
on a floppy. Change your BIOS boot setting to boot 1st off the
floppy followed by C: Your computer will boot automatically to
Windows, if you don't inset the floppy; and Linux, if you do.

Subject: Setting up diskless booting linux clients
Date: Thu, 21 Dec 2000 06:24:29 GMT
Hello,
I am really stuck. I am trying to setup a simple client-server demo,
where the client is diskless and will boot over the network via the
linux server. The client machine has onboard networking and PXE support.
On the server I have setup DHCP properly, and its working. TFTP is
installed and working from the directory /tftpboot. I am using local
IP's for this demo (192.168.x.y, etc).
Now, other than what I said above, I dont know where to go next. If I
try to boot the client, it grabs an IP, then hangs at the TFTP prompt. I
realize that there is a whole bunch of stuff that has to be setup in
/tftpboot, but I have no idea how to do it and cant find any
documention. I really need help on this. If anybody has done this kind
of configuration before, I would really appreciate some help. I am
actually willing to pay for some level of support for this, since I need
to get it done quickly. Thanks in advance.
