Thanks, I have that in etc/profile too but no qt.* files in profile.d.
I'm using SuSE 7.0 though.
Cheers

When I upgraded to Mandrake 7.2, Grub was installed. When I recompiled
the kernel it switched back to lilo.
How can I switch back to grub?

Hi!
When I try to compile enlightenment it does not
recognise the type TT_Engine (and alot of other
related types) in one of the source files (format.c).
I get a parsing error.
I have installed freetype2.0.1 and gcc seems
to be aware of its libraries.
Have anyone any ideas?

That error looks to me like it is coming from gs (ghostscript). I'm
guessing that the commands given to ghostscript are either incorrect
or maybe the driver that is trying to be used is not built into the
gs binary.

I've generated a new kernel with these options:
PLUG & PLAY SUPPORT = Y
SCSI SUPPORT = Y
SCSI GENERIC SUPPORT = Y
ADAPTEC AHA152X/2825 SUPPORT = Y
The SCSI card I'm using it's PNP and there's no posibility of
configuring by jumpers.
I've also modified the BIOS config. with NON PNP O.S.
My questions are:
a) Do I have to compile scsi card support as a module ?
b) How do I exactly have to modify lilo.conf ?
c) Is there any conflict risk between these card and SCSI EMULATION
SUPPORT for IDE CD-RW ?
d) Do I have to use isapnptools for modifying IO and IRQ , or this can
be done with lilo.conf ?
THANKS

Subject: odd Linux install problem
Date: Sat, 23 Dec 2000 16:04:40 GMT
Hello I have a Dell PIII450 with:
Creative (GeForce && SoundBlaster Live! X-Gamer && CD-RW 4x4x24) /*didn't
originally come with the system*/
Trust ISDN,
HP 712c,
256MegRAM,
Microsoft Optical Mouse (With the red LED)
Microsoft Ergo Key Board.
The problem is When I try to install Linux (RH6.1,6.2,7.0 || Calder2.3
|| Mandrake 7.0,7.1,7.2) I can get to the graphical install but then the
Keyboard and mouse lock up. I did a text install and worked until I tried
to "startx" then Gnome opened and the Keyboard and mouse locked up again.
So I tried to modify my inittab with no luck. It seems as though any
time I tried to use a GUI I loose the keyboard and mouse.
For a little history I have loaded Caldera 2.3 with a TNT and it worked,
then I installed the GeForce and of course it didn't work cuz of the Xfree,
but I reinstalled Caldera 2.3 with the GeForce and got to the GUI install
and even completed it.
I even took every card from my system (Modem, sound, NIC) and just left
the Gfx card in and I still can't get passed the GUI, I even swapped out the
Mouse and Keyboard....
So.....Can anyone help a little?

Are there any messages at all printed before this? The stp driver
should print an error before returning the error status to
Ghostscript.

Subject: Install Update Sequence for Caldera eDesktop??
Date: Sat, 23 Dec 2000 18:32:27 GMT
After I have installed Caldera's latest eDesktop, there are two upgrades
listed at their site:
- one which upgrades to 2.4 of the kernel; and
- one which upgrades the distributed KDE (1.3 I think) to v2.x.
Does it make any difference which order these are applied?
BTW, I have found that the upgrade to KDE 2 removes the Webmin and SWAT
applets from the KDE 2 menu system (it is still there if I use the KDE 1.3
version of desktop), but won't seem to work under KDE 2.

Subject: Complete setup failue
I've just tried installing RedHat 7.0 on an old PC (which should be
compatible). I changed my BIOS settings to boot from the CD ROM, put the
first installation CD into the drive and rebooted. The screen came up, I
pressed enter to install it, an it started going.. it filled the entire
screen with.. whatever ever it is that is prints when installing. It
asked me some questions, and when it got to the point of asking me
whether I wanted to set up as a workstation, server, etc., I moved back
to this machine to find out the difference, but while I did that, the
machine I was installing it on... shut down. beeped, turned the monitor
off, then started booting again.. I managed to get back into the install
procedure but it happened again.
Now it is acting extremely weirdly. I can never get past the boot stage.
It won't boot from CD ROM. It will boot from the A: drive, but it can't
access the hard drive for some reason. The random power-offs and
restarts happen even when I'm in the BIOS or trying to use FDISK. FDISK
does still think I have a hard drive labelled C and of the correct size.
Does anyone have any idea what is happening or what caused it? I can see
no connecting factor between these occurrences.
Thanks in advance,
Charles

I have just installed Redhat Linux 7.0 on a p.o.s. machine that I have at my
house. Everything seems to have gone smoothly during the installation but I
can't seem to get Linux to recognize the modem. I used the /sbin/ifconfig
command. I know that you should see three main sections, a lo section, a
eth0 section, and a ppp0 section but I am only seeing the lo section. When
I type /sbin/route I only goet one live of destination and gateway and all
of that stuff, it is the lo IFace. Why won't linux recognize my ppp
connection? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm printing from my Mac (OS 9.04) through the LaserWriter 8 printer
river to an Epson EPL-5500 (HP Laserjet 4 compatible) laser printer
onnected to a Linux box.
The Linux box is running Mandrake 7.2, which uses the CUPS printing
system. When I try to print a landscape document from the Mac is comes
out as portrait on the printer.
On versions of Mandrake previous to 7.2, this could be corrected by
adding the -dFIXEDMEDIA ghostscript option in printtool. Does anybody
know how to fix this with CUPS?
I've tried loads of different drivers, and the CUPS Laserjet Series
driver prints in landscape mode but not to a very high quality.
TIA,
