Date: Sat, 30 Dec 2000 06:47:18 GMT

My system is currently running Win 98 but I have the partitions set up
already for me to install Debian (a /boot, /, and swap partitions). It
is a Dell Inspiron 7500.

I've got Verizon (formerly GTE) ADSL service with a Dynamic IP. I'm
connected to a hub that is shared by my roommate. (4 port Linksys hub).

What do I need to do and what information should I get (and how to get
it) to install Debian and have network access?

Is my card supported? I looked at the PCMCIA supported card list but it
only listed the DFE-650 not the DFE-650TX. Is there a difference?

Thanks in advance,

Rob Sagris

Subject: Newbie Partion Question
Date: Sat, 30 Dec 2000 02:16:24 -0600

I am a total Linux... and partitioning.. newbie. Partition Magic has been
highly recommended to me, so I hope that what I have heard about it is true.

Currently I have a Windows 98 2nd edition machine, 6.32g hard drive, 65 megs
of ram, Pentium 3.
I will be installing Red Hat 7.0 Deluxe Workstation- it has been recommended
to me as the best way to get started as it comes with a lot of different
components and software.

My question concerns the size of the two partitions. Realistically, how
large of a partition does Linux need to run comfortably? I understand that
this will be, in part, concerned with if I install everything or not, but I
am wondering if there is a general rule of thumb when considering partition
size. I am considering giving W98 3.5G and RH 2.82G. I would make it more
even, but will be installing GIS software on the W98 side in the near
future.. sadly ESRI products aren't ported for Linux, though they are for
Unix.

I assume the the documentation coming with both will be adequate, I just
like to think ahead.

Thank you for any thoughts,

LadyHawke

good morning:

A clerk in hotel perform a dial -up and I think the modem has written a
phone numbers.

She may have dialled up to ( using a ppp service if I am corrected, tell me
if I am wrong !!!) a web site and not via internet to access the above fee
management page.

if the asp company provide such services, the behind running behind is cgi
and html server and certain directory for storing data files

Five hotels then five modems, five serial ports, five telephone nos ( five
installations of phone), five tailored fee management programs for
different clients at the minimum??????????????? agree.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In apache, it was by default listen to 80, if set to listen
I. 8080 for the first hotel A in url.
II. 8081 for the 2n hotel B in url.
III 8082 ...
IV 8083....
V 8084 ...

X. 8089 for 10th hotel

It does not necessary started with "www", it does not required DNS services
for PPP?
or it may used a shared modems but at least 4-5 modem awaiting to be called

The ASP company must have at least a dozen of other hotels to survive from
the point of cost and labour????

A fee management program of web-based idea:

1. room reservation management
2. F & B
3. .....etc
4 retrieve a small data base

I do not know at the moment. I knew there is something off the shelf package
from download.com about hotel management program.

But I can change the PATH if I add the line:
PATH=$PATH:/usr/java/jdk1.3/bin; export PATH

Use those configuration tools without X, from the plain old textmode terminal.
(Like if you start netconf from X, you get the X version on the tool, from the
textmode
you get the textmode version, which obviously doesn't suffer from these screen
mode problems...)

If your machine boots directly to the X, you can get to the text mode by
pressing
[CTRL-ALT-F3]. Log in, and run Xconfigurator. From there, select the appropriate

display mode. You can get back to X by pressing ALT-F7, but remember to restart
X so
that the changes take effect.

Happy new year!

Based on FBI investigations and other information, the NIPC advises

Denial-of-Service (DDOS) and other cyber attacks which could occur.

NIPC recommends the use of our "Find DDOS" utility to determine if your

 I installed the W32 x-windows server for my 486's ET4000/W32 video chip
(or at least I think I did), but I'm still getting the same problem
when using the generic adapter: after a couple minutes or if I click on
something the server will crash. I'm running the newest version of
Peanut Linux, and have tried more than a couple resolutions each at 256
colors. My sync rates are correct too.

What could be causing this? It seems to boot up just fine and draw
the screen, move the mouse, etc but it wont stay on long. I only have
24 megs of RAM in there plus a 30 meg swapfile, does my system sound
too slow to run KDE?

Hello,

try something like this in your httpd.conf (uncomment)

#
# Control access to UserDir directories. The following is an example
# for a site where these directories are restricted to read-only.
#
#<Directory /home/*/public_html>
# AllowOverride FileInfo AuthConfig Limit
# Options MultiViews Indexes SymLinksIfOwnerMatch IncludesNoExec
# <Limit GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND>
# Order allow,deny
# Allow from all
# </Limit>
# <LimitExcept GET POST OPTIONS PROPFIND>
# Order deny,allow
# Deny from all
# </LimitExcept>
#</Directory>

Perhaps you have to fidle a bit with the permissions on this directories,
apache needs to be able
to read it.

Finally, type: /depends_on_your_distro/init.d/apache reload
and done...:-)

You can use the above in the main config or in a VirtualHost section.

Good luck

Hello,

type:

nslookup slashdot.org

Server: localhost
Address: 127.0.0.1

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: slashdot.org
Address: 64.28.67.48

On a machine where DNS is configured propably nslookup will show you the
name of your primary DNS server.
The above is from my home machine, which is running DNS itself as you can
see.

On a LAN, a good configured DNS, is one of the first things that should
work, or you will get many problems!

Good luck
