I re-installed again and set Linux to boot from a floppy. I still need tell
the BIOS to boot from the Linux drive even though I boot off a floppy. I
installed by booting from a IDE CD.

I also had the 1010101010 problem.

Can I install Red Hat 6.2 to a system that dual boots to Windows 2000 and
Millenium - all exisitng drives are fat32 and there's a new unpartitioned
disk just installed?

another way to do this is to use a larger virtual screen, ie virtual screen set
to 800x600, then you just scroll down. (I don't like virtual screens, but it is
an option)

Michael,

This is alright on version 6.2, but on version 7.0 the hard drive
partition setup is slightly different.

first choose the program to use (disk druid is recommended). Then choose
the partition for Linux to install on.
set up is just a little easier in Linux 7.0

I believe you usually have to add a trailing / ie: http://localhost/~user/ to
get it to work.

If your administrator thinks DNS is just for Linux, you should get another

I wasn't the one who asked the original question, but I have a question
about what you said in step 1. The main reason that I am having to ask
instead of reading documention is that Amazon.com is taking a long time to
ship my order, no local software sources outside of games.

My hard drive isn't partitioned. I am assuming from #1 that there isn't any
way of partitioning it outside of reformating? I hate to have to ask such a
basic question, but I need to make certain before I install anything else on
my computer. No point in doing it if I am going to have to reformat.....
(will be using Partition Magic). I have hopes that the software will get to
me before classes start back up in a week so that I actually have the time
to work with it.

if u don't know what it is leave it checked so it can be installed b/c
ther is always a chance you need it and don't know it. As u get more
accustomed to what is needed and what isnt you can refine subsequent
installs to only install what you know u need.

its a matter of time and experience

I hope u dont mind me emailing you personally. You dont have to respond
if u dont want. I just wanted to let u know i fixed the problem although
ido have a minor one coming up if i find out my usb webcam is supported.

I got into Linux to see what was using irq 12. I found out my uhci
driver was using irq 12. I had then remembered that I had edited the
rc.config file (for suse) so that USB would be started at boot. I
edited that file again so that wouldn't happen, rebooted, and that freed
up the irq. I then used setserial on com3 and it worked first time.

question is, am i still gonna have usb support? Right now the only
other option is to make my own entry in /sbin/init.d/rc2.d, or whatever
the directory is, so that a setserial command is executed before the USB
driver is loaded and hopefully the USB drivers would still be able to
use irq 12 even if the modem grabs it first. It obviuosly didn't work
with USB grabbing the irq first. If this doesn't work the situation
begs the question: why is Windows98 able to have both devices on the
same irq but Linux can't handle it?

thanks for the help

well, that search string didn't work. I was noticing that all the
questions pertained to receiving LI and that was it. My problem was that
I was getting the corect LILO but then after choosing 'win' i got
another LI.

After doing a couple more searches using different search strings I came
upon a message that ended up helping me. The original problem was
caused by me manually setting the boot= parameter in lilo.conf to a
partition instead of a drive thus I ended up having 2 LILOs on hda. One
on the MBR and one on the boot sector of hda1. The whole situation is a
long story but i was able to sys C: to get back the boot sector of hda1.
I essentially had 2 LILOs installed which I ended up realizing before I
started searching on Google. I just didn't know how to fix it. But i
found a message sayign to sys the C drive and that worked. I then edited
lilo.conf so that boot=/dev/hda not /dev/hda1. Having LILO on hda1 also
explained why mount couldn't mount the windows partition: because it was
seeing LILO data there instead of a filesystem. I also got the drives
working on the HPT366 controller so everything is working good now.

thanks for your help.

First thing I would say would be to go here: http://www.xcdroast.org/
and get xcdroast-0.98 and cdrecord-1.9

Then this link might help.
