Hmm .. I've applied all the fixes suggested by a previous poster (Markus),
which covers your suggestions as well, EXCEPT .. you additionally advise
making the W95 C: partition be the *FIRST* primary partition of the drive.

Well, I already made the fist partition be linux /. The W95 partition (type
0Ch) is the *second* primary partition on the drive. Both partitions
combined total just under 8GB (88M + 7.6G, respectively). I'm using LILO,
and I've successfully booted to both linux and W95. Do you think I'm good to
go as is, or might I stumble upon something else later on?

Subject: Apache file uploads

Hi,
I've compiled apache and php3 on my RedHat 7.0 machine and want to allow
file uploads through a form. When I try to upload a file I get the error "File
contains no Data...", and there is a segmentation fault in the apache log. I
didn't compile apache with DSO support (I used the quick install commands that
were in the php3 INSTALL documentation). Any idea what might be the problem?

We recently re-installed Linux and have had problems adding new users.

To make a long story short, we were running RedHat 5.2, had problems,
saved all the old emails, user info, etc. Reformatted the drive,
installed RedHat 6.1. Got all users back on new version with emails,
etc.

Problem: When we add any new users, they cannot login to get their
email. Trying PASSWD username doesn't work either. When I do ADDUSER
username, it doesn't prompt me for a password.

I have tried deleting problem users, re-creating them. Tried changing
their passwords too. I have setup a mail client to download their
email, and it won't recognize them.

ANYONE have any suggestions? The natives are getting restless!

Thanks,

Have you checked in the BIOS settings to ensure that USB suport is

The way i got it to work was to do:

ADDUSER (username)
PASSWD (username you have just created, or just any user)

You should then get the message that the details are updated (cant remember
the wording at the moment)

That should be it

Thanks for any comments on my question, actually I need to do so because I am
running a program that needs an linux user without password to access, and
this linux user will do things on the fly, password will terminate the
program process, and then I made this decision.

And I accept all you said that password is important, but not for all cases,
and I am sure I will no any problem to do so, and actually I KNOW WHAT I AM
DOING...

Finally, I solved the problem by myself, and I want to say is that please do
not try to GUESS somebody doing something is correct or not before you make
any comments.

Thanks anyway!

Martin.

That seems fairly straightforward then. How do you handle the id/password in
an environment like this? (I presume there is one, but don't really know.)

It works sufficiently well for me, http://www.hermanbruijn.com and
http://geophysics.bruyn.org both run on my machine with VirtualHosts
configured as above, and they seperate nicely. But they both run on one
single ip-address. I consider this a better option then having one
machine with one network interface running multiple ip-adresses.

No they don't, you minimally need mode 0701 for the user home directory,
and minimally 0701 for the public_html in the users home-directory, with
an index.html with permissions set to 0604. If you increase the
permission level of the public_html to 0705 the visitors will able to
get a directory listing when there is no index.html

Gene Heskett sends greetings to Bill Unruh;

I downloaded the latest xcdroast and must say that its quite an
improvement.

About the only squawk I have ATM is that a simulated burn leaves my Acer
6206 in such a state as to require a powerdown reset, playing hob with
uptimes. However, after the powerdown reset, it cheerfully put 744 megs
worth of assorted music on an 80 minute cd. I think thats stretching

That burner has revision 1.6A flash in it, does anyone know if there is
a later version that might fix that simulated burn bug?

Or is that becoming a well known bug with cdrecord-1.9?

Gene Heskett sends Greetings to Graham Wilson;

dselect? That means debian. However, most of the
2.2.18pre-something-or-others, and the final 2.2.18, have emu10k1 in the
sources, and it builds as a module, don't make it part of the kernel,
and then works great,

GW> Now I'm sad because the little test program `play' doesn't make

 GW> CONFIG_SOUND = y/m (soundcard support)
 GW> CONFIG_SOUND_* = n (no integrated soundcard drivers)

Thats the mistake, set this stuff to enable the emu10k1 driver as a
module, and none of the other stuff a couple of paragraphs need be a
concern.

If all the resources are installed, its a piece of cake. After doing
the make xconfig or make menuconfig, this script, executed as ./makeit,
does the rest. While its running, fix your /etc/lilo.conf to make the
new kernel selectable.

## this script assumes you have downloaded, unpacked and linked your kernel
## sources as 'linux'
## Now, the real work. This assumes you have copied your
## .config and .config.old
## files from the source directory of your previous kernel install, and have
## done 'make oldconfig' in the new source directory and answered all the
## questions, and then do a 'make xconfig' to check/change anything you
## wanted to

## First, set (modify to suit) the version string
VER=2.2.16-22gh

make dep
make clean
make bzImage
cp -f arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-$VER
make modules
## Get rid of any old backups else mv might have a tummy ache
rm -fR /lib/modules/$VER.old
## Move old modules to a backup dir
mv -f /lib/modules/$VER /lib/modules/$VER.old
make modules_install
## Overwrite existing /boot/System.map-$VER if it exists
cp -f System.map /boot/System.map-$VER
#####
cd /boot
### Remove old links or files
rm -f System.map
### And link the new System.map in
ln -s System.map-$VER System.map
## when changing kernel versions, this gives *false* errors, ignore
/sbin/depmod -a $VER
## Make sure that before the script gets this far, that you have your
## /etc/lilo.conf file up to date. Watch for echo'd errors here
/sbin/lilo -v
## All done! reboot and chose your kernel at the lilo prompt

HTH

Cheers, Gene

Hmmmm, maybe there is something else going on then. Cause what you did
is exactly what I did, ADDUSER and PASSWD. Email client will not let me
login.

Could there be something else going on?

Thanks,

Jim

Use LILO ?

put an entry in the lilo.conf, just like you would for any other windows OS,
and run `/sbin/lilo -v`

Have fun,

PS: you could ofcourse run `/sbin/lilo -u` to restore the NT loader, but
that's far less fun.
