What do you mean by "send the message to 2ppl"?
Write a proper .procmailrc, don't make up the nonsense you made up:
>> > * ^TO_.*zayin@redpoint
>> > /var/spool/mail/zayin
Where do you get that "TO_.*" rubbish from? It should be:
* ^To: zayin@
and in any case you normally filter on From! How can one person receive
mails addressed to two different addresses!

Well, I've gotten a lot of input regarding my previous question; but by
the results I take it there's no definitive answers. Generally, here's what
was suggested for installing (Caldera) Linux on my 46 GB HD:
/(root) 500MB-10GB
Swap 128MB-1GB
/boot 10MB-25MB
/opt 2-3GB
/home 2GB-As Big As You Can Make It
/temp 6GB
/usr Big
/var ?
Now another question comes to mind: When I install programs, are they
going to "know" where these directories/partitions are, or am I gonna have
to "show" them? The same question holds true for uninstalling programs.
Where are the majority of programs going to install? Oh yeah, and I take it
that a program only needs to be installed once, and not for each individual
user? From what I've been reading, this point is somewhat unclear to me....
Thanks in advance for any input.

Date: Wed, 10 Jan 2001 13:00:51 GMT
Hi, guys
I'm trying to install redhat6.2 and 7 into my laptop with pcmica cd-rom. So first I
made pcmcia.img floppy disk and
booted. It looked everything is fine. However after I got the pc card cd-rom
initialized and language and keyboard selection,
what I see is the following installaion section.
What type of media contains the packages to be installed?
Hard drive
That's all. If all goes fine, I have to see other options including cd-rom. But, I
can't. I don't know why I can't see
other options but Hard drive. My pc card cd-rom is Doshiba ATAPI 20x. To my knowledge,
ATAPI pcmcia cd-rom drive
should be supported during installation without a fail. Am I wrong?
And when I enter ctl+alt+F4, I can see the pcmica.img boot disk detected the cd-rom
like that:
Toshiba ATAPI 20x ... ..
What's the problem? Is there any idea? Thanks guys in advance.

Long time since I personally used Redhat ;-) But in modules.conf don't
you need to add something more then simply the name of the module?
Something like "auto name_of_module options"? Maybe in the man page for
modules.conf?

It's all documented in man procmailrc....

Nothing.

Whats to help, df is telling you that you have an ext2 formatted disk,
mounted to mountpoint /mnt/zip, and that the disk doesn't appear to have
anything on it except the filesystems reserved structure. This of
course assumes that you did do a mkdir /mnt/zip in order to create the
mointpoint in the first place.
LH> thanks

LH> mount success, but /mnt/zip become a file)
Take a standard zip disk, factory formatted, and do:
mount -t vfat /dev/zip /mnt/zip
which should also work. The reason you had to format it to ext2 was
that you didn't tell the mount command what non-linux filesystem was on
the disk.
I have an ide ls-120, with 3 disks ext2 formatted, 3 disks still factory
and they can be freely interchanged as long as the correct -t option is
given to the mount command.
In any event, a file copied to /mnt/zip/filename should be visible when
an 'ls' is done on /mnt/zip.

Hello,
puh, a bit strange, I don't know if you could start smbd from floppy and mount
the
W2K hd from smbclient, after all this is Linux, so it should be possible...
On the other hand, just wipe the hd out of the box and put in another machine
that has CD and install a small distro on it.
Let lilo write to /mbr of this hd and put it back. Should work...
Good luck

As I said, the server is throttled. If you don't run the server, you
need to find whoever does, and get them to fix it. If you do run
the server, you should know what to do.

You misunderstand the question.

The question is does it make a difference if one or the other is built
into the kernel.
If I build only one in, does one results in better kernel preformance?
Does one drag the kernel down?
Of course there are preformance difference between building in a
module into the kernel and loading it seperately. That's why you
rebuild kernels in the first place.

Hi pals,
I'm living in a student-hall in Vienna running a LAN, through which students
can connect to the internet. Currently I am using Windoze95 and I need the
"MS-PC-client" to do so - the LAN is provided by a WindozeNT4.0-server.
My internal IP is 10.10.15.73 and our Gateway has 10.10.0.102
I would really like to use Linux to use the Internet - I'm running SuSE6.1.
I've tried hard and often, but I can't get Linux to use our LAN for
connecting to the internet - the problem is that although eth0 is installed
(module 3com509) I am unable to ping computers in our LAN.
Some people told me, it is impossible for Linux to connect through a
WinNT-LAN, others told me, that I would need special modules for connection
via LAN (analogon to MS-PC-client)
Has anyone any experience on this topic or has anyone some adresses, where
to get these "mystic modules".
I'M F***ED UP USING THIS CRAPPY WINDOZE95!!! (sorry for the explicit
language!)
thx-a-lot, Philipp ;-)

Subject: TurboLinux 6.0 Kernel Installation
Date: Wed, 10 Jan 2001 14:19:21 GMT
Hi
I am currently trying to install TurboLinux 6.0.2 Workstation on my
Pentium Pro computer. The problem which I am having is that during the
install of TL, it asks me for which kernel type i would like to install
(ie i586 i686...), however, if I select i686 it reasdies the computer
for the installation of the 686 kernel, however, it loads the 586
modules. Thus resulting in many problems within the computer. When I did
a -uname command, it brought up that the version installed was Linux
2.2.16, however when I check the modules, they are designed for 2.2.14.
I have reformatted my hard drive andtried installing different kernel
types, even re-compiled the kernel and built new modules for it, however
it does not seem to install properly.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Bobby

ctl renumber ''

Some people prefer a smaller kernel, AFAIK there is no performance loss
when you use modules as compared to building an all in one kernel. And
then most people end up using the kernel auto loader which loads modules
as needed and unloads them as well.
Second building them as modules makes it easier to pass arguments such
as io, irq and such.

As a precaution, you should:
1. boot win98
2. scandisk
3. defrag
4. shutdown
5. start Partition Magic
2&3 make sure that all Windows data is moved to the start of the disk,
thus not causing problems when you resize.
I'm assuming step 4 & 5 are needed because you have PM on a diskette.
If not, adjust accordingly.

Hi,
I started with a fairly standard RedHat 7.0 system (upgraded to gcc-2.96.54)
with kernel-2.1.18, which compiled out of the box. However, when I
attempted to compile the 2.4.0 kernel, either with or without the ac4 patch,
specifying the Athlon CPU gave me the problem reported by the original
poster. So then I RTFM and used kgcc (2.91.66, egcs-1.1.2), but with exactly
the same outcome. Fishing around in the error messages suggested to me that
they might be specific to the selected CPU type, so I "down-graded" this to
"K6" in xconfig and, lo and behold, everything compiled perfectly with kgcc.
I haven't yet repeated the experiment with my stock gcc.
On the face of it, this suggests that, if kgcc has troubling grokking the
configuration options for a K7/Athlon, then so does gcc-2.96.54. I don't
know whether an even newer gcc might work.
I'm afraid that this more or less exhausts my fault-finding capacity, though
I would like to understand more before reporting it as a possible bug (in
a kernel configuration/header file or in the compiler ??).
Luke.
