I suggest you get a current driver from www.danpex.com Their ADP1100 driver
should work for you.
Good Luck.

Or find and updated network driver at www.scyld.com/network/.

Or upgrade to kernel 2.4.0...

Right again; hda5 is root, and /boot/vmlinuz is a symbolic link to a
2.2.14 kernel

this worked beautifully to boot windows. I had done this sequence which
also worked:
        rootnoverify (hd0,0)
        makeactive
        chainloader +1
        boot

What is the difference the 'root' and 'rootnoverify' commands and when
would I use the "makeactive command or not?

the first command, 'root (hd0, 4)' gave an error of "unrecognized device
string".
BUT, omitting the first command and just executing kernel, then boot,
boots linux nicely!!

I've created this file in the "/boot/grub" directory, but does not seem to
have any effect during boot up. neither linux nor windows is
    offered for boot up.

I do not have an initrd file, but I do have: pcinitrd, which creates a
PCMCIA initrd ram disk image - this as well I had trouble configuring.
This may be a moot point however. I main thing is that I can get both OSs
booted with 1 bootloader. So thanks a LOT. Now if only I could get
a prompt for linux or windows and have them boot up w/out 2 or three lines

Subject: Re: Linux Newbie soon to be onboard

Watch out for those 'high-rated' mobos!!

I made the mistake of trying to build a RH7/Apache server with
the KT7 RAID mobo, based on those high ratings. Linux would
never install so I had to drop back and punt: I've converted my
VERY stable EPOX 500mHz K6II mobo machine to the server,
and turned this one into my desktop machine. At this writing, it's
finally stable enough to go 2 - 4 hours between crashes, but that's
after multiple Win98 reinstalls, plus the original attempts to load
RH7, and the subsequent attempt to get Win2K going, and after
going to beta BIOS loads on the Abit mobo.

All those wonderful ratings are from the 'overclocker' community,
where the most important factor about a mobo is how big the bragging
rights are . . . and what the Quake frame rate is. If that's what floats
your boat, I guess that's OK. But I wanted a machine that would actually
WORK for days at a time without attention, and unfortunately, I was
naive about what was being rated in all those reviews. If the KT7
were rated for stability the review would be short: "It sux big ones!".
But, as the kid show says, "you don't have to take my word for it"; just
check out alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.abit, and spend an hour reading
all the horror stories. What really blew me away is discovering that
a lot of these guys were NOT surprised that they've had to spend 20 - 30
hours to get the board to work right! I guess it's what working on a
'hotrod' was 40 years ago -- those guys didn't actually expect reliable
transportation, either.

BTW, the RAID is NOT hardware RAID (made a sucker of myself on
that one, too), and I've noticed that a few Linux users have not only
gotten the KT7 running, but gotten the RAID going: however it's taken
some advanced tweaking and lots of patching.

Good luck!

Ben

You are welcome!!! The reason I asked if that command actually worked,
is that generally zip drives put their
data on 4th partition (i.e. /dev/hdb4 or /dev/sda4) when you get them
preformatted or when you format them
in windozes.
You must have formatted the zip drive differently than normal :)

Put, in your /etc/modules.conf, the line

alias sound emu10k1

which should bring it in fairly early in the boot, you'll hear a click
in the speakers as it inits.

Even if you are running a stock install, the driver, emu10k1.o, should
be in the /lib/modules/version directory tree, and a simple insmod
emu10k1 should bring it in right now.

No mail is "bounced" if your server is unavailable, unless it's
unavailable for a /very/ long time. How the mail being queued (and
unanswered, which, BTW, also gives you a bad reputation) can hurt
business is speculative, don't you think?

Subject: Kernel 2.4.0 and PPP
Date: Tue, 16 Jan 2001 02:01:25 GMT

I recently downloaded, compiled, and installed kernel version 2.4
on my existing Red Hat 6.2 system (upgrading from kernel 2.2.17).
All went well, and the new kernel boots, and it seems everything
works *except* PPP. I did all the updates/upgrades called for in
Documentation/Changes, including upgrading pppd to version 2.4.0,
but I can't get PPP to work under the 2.4 kernel. When I try to
bring up the interface, I get an error message stating that "the
kernel does not include support for PPP". I have double-checked
the configuration of the kernel, and both "PPP support" and
"PPP support over async serial lines" are included in the
kernel (not modules). PPP is verified as version 2.4.0, as called
for in Changes. I am definitely running the kernel I compiled, as
other options I switched on appear on bootup.

Any suggestions?
