Again, many thx for the info; the reason for all this writing is Partition
Magic refusing the create or resize partitions, as long as this "overlap" is
in existence! When trying to commit changes to the partition tables, it
reports an "Error #717' and bails out. This error is documented as
corresponding to Warning #113 from PARTINFO, "partitions overlap".
So I have to try to make it work again, since there is about 3 GB of unused
space on the drive, and I'd like to make use of it :-)

Oh yes it does. Or at least the mkswap page (which it references) does.

Subject: gnucash/g-wrap/guile problem

hello,

does anyone have a filed called require.scm that belongs to the
slib/guile 1.4 package?

I downloaded gnucash. I had to download g-wrap then. Then I got errors
during 'make' so i thought i had to get a new version of guile. But I
still don't have the file I need to make g-wrap which is needed by gnucash.

Can someone send the file to my email or tell me where I can get it
since it wasn't included with guile? I got other scm files in the ice-9
directory, which is where slib is but not require.scm.

Thanks

In order to read the files off of that drive in another linux machine,
just install the drive and boot off of the one that still works. then
mount the drive with somethign like this:

mount /dev/hd<whatever the drive letter is e.g.: hda1/hdb3/sda2...)>
-t <fstype> /mnt/<some mount point>

Then read then like you normally would. You can read and write too so
you can fix it there. You can use a RH Install CD to get root access
to the filesystem, but it is a pain in the ass. You don't want to do
it unless you have to.

Good luck.

Date: Sat, 3 Feb 2001 21:54:45 +1000

Thanks all !!!

1) Yes I need the new LILO - I will get it from the RH FTP WHEN it is free

2) The prob was that the kernel itself as a file went beyond cyl 1023.

HOW I FIXED IT with my old ver of LILO :

a) Well, I MOVED the old kernel-2.2.x on ANOTHER DRIVE (so physically)

b) I then MOVED the new renamed bzImage on ANOTHER DRIVE as well - to make
sure it is physically moved.

c) The I copied the NEW kernel [from b) ] into the /boot.

Well, whaddya know ! when I ran lilo it just said :

adding linux *
adding dos

It is STUPID, but it worked. The new kernel was copied somewhere BELOW the
1023 cyl boundary.

HEHEHE !!

But I really should get the new LILO or use loadlin.

Thanks again !!

You're right

but in search for perfection, I wanted to give only one command - click on
icon in KDE to have that - and I managed with a script file

1) forces search for UDF first

2) on failure (it check /etc/mtab for /mnt/cdrom- smart huh ?) it tries
ISO9660

It is crappy but it works.

Yes, Wav files are stored in RIFF format, with proper headers and such.

As an audio track. In Gnometoaster, all you have to do is drag your file
into the Tracklist (the second button to the lower left of the window).

It sure will. Just add it to your list of audio tracks to be recorded.

No it wasn't cause with Gnometoaster all you have to do is drag your
file from the builtin filemanager into the tracklist.
You can recognize gcdmaster by it's waveeditor-like look.
You can get Gnometoaster from http://gnometoaster.rulez.org

It's slow but works decently on a fast system.
Imho the standard theme is too loaded, though.I'll stick to Gnome for
that matter.

You don't need to convert it.
As mentioned, just drag it into Gnometoaster's tracklist and everything
should be ok.
But *please* upgrade to the most recent version of gnometoaster. the
version coming with mandrake is about a year old and can be tricky to
configure at times.

no.

Gnometoaster can use cdrdao as a backend.
If you want to use cdrdao from the commandline, type man cdrdao
to get a description of the toc file format used by cdrdao.

Is there any particular hostname you are trying to lookup? What do you
want to do with the IP when you get it? 'nslookup' should be able to
lookup an IP for a hostname if your /etc/resolv.conf is set properly.

If you actually want to dynamically get the IP 'of' your ISP's
nameserver(s), see the 'usepeerdns' option in 'man pppd'.

I guess it depends upon which S3 model you are talking about. I have
NEVER had any trouble using any Linux or RH specific version (5.0, 5.2 or
6.1) in the console or S3 Xserver with my ancient slow S3 Trio64. But I
am currently running Mandrake 7.0 (with generic 2.2.17 kernel) and have no
reason to try a newer RH version, until they work the bugs out of it or
include a 2.4 kernel.

Hi Andy,
On the distribution CD, there's a load of different X server files for
different cards.
Here's how...
1) Mount your CD rom so you can access it, usually "mount /mnt/cdrom"
2) Change directory to where the RPMS live "cd /mnt/cdrom/RedHat/RPMS"
3) Do an "ls XFree*" to see all the XFree86 X servers and find the one for
your card.
4) Install the RPM file by doing "rpm -Uvh XFree86-S3<version_number>.rpm"
(you said you had an S3 card)
5) Rerun Xconfigurator and specify and S3 card. The S3 X server should now
be found (because you just installed it :) )

Hope this helps
Cheers
