When I try to install Applixware v5.0 on RHL v7.0, I get errors that the
following are required:

ld-linux-so.1
libc-so.5
libm.so.5

My system has more recent versions of each (.2, .6 and .6). Shouldn't
the newer libs be backwards compatible? Any ideas?

This one's got me scratching my head.

I had set up my inetd.conf file so that I could telnet in to
my machine from school, and I have done so before. Well, not
from school, but I *did* telnet to my ISP and then telnet
from *there* back into my machine, so I knew that it worked. I
could also telnet locally (telnet localhost), and all was good.

Today though, I can't.

When I try to telnet in, it tells me that my connection is refused.

Upon further inspection, I noticed that the parameter being sent
to inetd was "in.telnetd". This matched the "in.proftpd", for FTP
access, so I figured that telnetd was my telnet daemon.

I did a

   find / -iname telnetd -print

And lo and behold! The file isn't there anymore!

Does *anybody* have any idea what could have happened? I'm
assuming that I can't telnet back into my machine of course,
because there is no more telnet daemon to telnet into!

So *where* can I find a new telnetd?! I looked @ rpmfind.net
and could only finx x86/sparc/alpha, but I'm on LinuxPPC.
As well, all that I did find where "Polish(ed)" versions,
and methinks this isn't what I want.

Help, please.

Tks,
patrick

You can use the Metaframe Client from Citrix and the Metaframe option for
Windows 2000 server. Using terminal services and citrix you can "publish"
applications to a number of different client platforms including unix.

   Hello,

Recently I had to re-install RH6.1 on my machine.
Since then, during the booting, "Starting Sendmail"
is taking a long time, but eventually says "[OK]".
Is there any log or anything that I can take a
look at to figure out if anything is wrong.

Before re-installation, it took only few seconds
   in that step.

First off, Linux is mostly for servers, and not very much for workstations,
but as for your problem:

The boot sector and the kernel must be below cylinder 1023.

So:

Run fdisk and make your first partition /boot and your second can be
Win9x/2k, and then on...
This should solve your Li... problem.

Here's my lilo config using linux slackware7.1

boot = /dev/sda
#compact # faster, but won't work on all systems.

I need it to boot to w98 primarily.. when i use the above i get

"non system disk.. replace and strike a key" why is that happenning?
anything I can change? It boots fine to linux when i press alt within
5 sec and type "lin"

what's the "map drive = 0x80 stuff?

i have

C partition on /dev/sda1
Linux native on /dev/sda2
E partition on /dev/sda4
F partition on /dev/sda5
G partition on /dev/sda6

D partition on /dev/sdb1
Linux swap on /dev/sdb2

I used to have the swap partition on /dev/sda3 but I decided that it'd
be better if i put it on another drive and made teh Linux native just
a bit larger.

I also tried boot magic or something liek that (that comes with
partition magic) but it would only recognize FAT32 and not the linux
filesystem and woudl not boot to linux.

any help would be appreciated..

TIA

majic

Ps. anyone know how to change the screen resolution? (for KDE or
gnome) I don't care much about the terminals and it is 1024x768
already.. but a bit flickering.. how can i change the refresh rate?

You might like to look at my web site www.klatu.fsnet.co.uk

There are several XF86Config files on there for the SIS6326 chip set. This
chip set does need several modifications to the config file to get it to run
correctly.

I tried looking on deja and didn't find answers so here it is. I have a
problem giving the startx command when I have my cable modem shut off.
I am using the Adelphia Powerlink and the cable installer said that the
on off button dosen't turn off power but it does turn off the pretty
leds and closes the port that's open to the network. I don't understand
what starting the gui has to do with the internet unless the Kde desktop
has to access it to be able to run the Kde internet graphical tools.

Without the cable modem on I type in 'startx' and the machine locks up
until I start the cable modem. An explanation would be great or a point
to tutuorial explanation would be great also. I'm not lazy.

Pure luck. Next kernel rebuild may put it beyond that limit again.
/boot should be entirely below the 1024. cyl. boundary.
(Or you must use a bootloader that can access locations beyond that point,
like lilo v21.4.3 or above)

you can put lilo in the MBR (which is not C:) or in another partition's
bootsector
I put in the MBR (All documents tell you not to do it) Most people follow
the linux+NTloader howto.

You can have it both ways, choose whatever you prefer.
But, do NOT overwrite the bootsector of C:

The cached reads will go somewhat faster, assuming that the inevitable
CRC errors (which the ATA protocol automagically retries) don't slow
everything down again.
