For some reason if you use g-wrap-0.9.5-1 from
ftp.redhat.com/pub/rawhide/powertools/SRPMS you can compile
gnucash-1.4.10-1 but if you use g-wrap-1.1.4-1 or 1.1.9-1 or 0.9.8-2 or
0.9.12 it doesn't seem to want to compile. For some resaon even trying
to compile some of these g-wrap files ends with a message that it needs
g-wrap guile-devel even though they are both already installed. I
haven't figured out why.

Hey there,

I'm having a problem getting linux to recognize my ethernet card I think. I
have everything setup correctly (or so I think) but when linux is booting
up, when it gets to "Bringing up eth0" it always fails. It says its
looking for something like " /modules/psmcia/3c509_c.o " , but I checked
that directory and while it has similar files, it doesn't have that object
file. Is that my problem? And, if so, can anyone tell me how to fix it.
Also, someone mentioned to me to check my /proc/pci file. That's empty.
What should be in there???? Thanks

Wade

Subject: recompiling debian (newbie question)
Date: Thu, 08 Feb 2001 17:26:41 GMT

I recently downloaded and installed the base Debian Linux system from a few
floppys. The install went well but I cannot seem to recompile my kernel.
Some reading has led me to understand that I need a C++ compiler and kernel
files to actually recompile. (I thought that these would automatically be a
part of the install).

I need to be able to recompile so I can get my DSL connection working in
Linux (via pppoe) and finish installing the other modules.

Can anyone please tell me what the actual filenames are and/or the
directories are that they reside on? I've spent over a week digging and
nothing yet. Frustration is beginning to set in.

Thanks

Wayne

For a Pentium II this should be 6.

For a Pentium II this should say Mobile Pentium II. You do not have a
Pentium II, hence no mtrr's.

Subject: libc.so.5 for Linux on Sparc
Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2001 12:10:32 -0500

Hi.

I am trying to install an AFS client on my Sparc 4
running Redhat 6.2.

I have found an rpm that requires libc.so.5:
==================================================
# rpm --install afs-3.3a-2.0.29.sparc.rpm
error: failed dependencies:
        libc.so.5 is needed by afs-3.3a-2.0.29
=================================================

I have not been able to find a sparc.rpm for libc.
I downloaded the SRPM, but was unable to rebuild it:
==================================================
# rpm --rebuild libc-5.3.12-31.src.rpm
Installing libc-5.3.12-31.src.rpm
Architecture is not included: sparc
==================================================

Any suggestions on how to install libc.so.5 for Linux
Sparc would be greatly appreciated.

Incidentally, if anyone has an rpm for open-afs that
would work on Linux Sparc, please let me know.

Thanks,

Kouros

Hi,

I have a Compaq EP with RedHat 7.1 beta (2.4 kernel) and a Seagate USB tape
drive. The system does recognize theF reecom hub and drive (/dev/st0) and
it shows up in the usbview utility. All I need is some software or utility
that can write to the drive. I've attempted to use taper and Amanda with no
success. Has anyone tried BRU with this compbination? I'll buy it if I
need to. I just want to know if there's a simple 'cpio' script that I can
use.

BTW, the linux-usb (http://www.linux-usb.org) web site offers no help when
trying to install usb tape drives. I find this odd since usb can be used
with so many devices. oh well...

Thanks in advance,

Nathan

You can still mount C: from linux?
Then at least the FS isn't hosed.
I suppose all you need to do is make C: the active partition again.
You can use any fdisk for this.

no, the board has built-in general ATAPI slots and also UltraDMA 66
slot.

with kernel files you mean the kernel source-code?
Then yes, I guess you would need those ;-)
Check if they are on your system (/usr/src/linux)
It'll not be there if you used a few floppy's I'd guess.
You can get the sources from www.kernel.org

The compiler can (I guess) be found at http://www.gnu.org/
Otherwise try www.freshmeat.com if you need anything else.

I don't know debian very well, but probably they have a website too that
will provide links to these sites.

Yes I do, read on

Good than boot once more with the floppy.
edit /etc/lilo.conf
There's probably a line that says "linear"
change that into "lba32"

run `/sbin/lilo -v`

and reboot.
(PS. if it already says lba32, just run /sbin/lilo again)
If it still fails, I need more info:

`fdisk -l /dev/hd[a-d]`
`cat /etc/lilo.conf`
