If it still doesn't work, try "1024x768" just to see if it matters.

You don't mention what kind of database you are using, so I'll assume you
are using mySQL, though it's generally the same for any database.
Most database systems let you use tools on the command line (and
therefore in a shell script). So you have two options
1) Make a shell script to access the database
2) Make program to access the databse through library calls
1 is easier, but 2 is better option for "Live Production" systems, I
guess.
Look in the manual for the database (You may need to go to their site to
get it) to find out how to do this. (The MySQL manual is 100+ pages)

XF86Config is only important for the mouse in X.
But you are looking for the console mouse , right?
/home/user>ll /dev/mouse
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 5 Sep 28 15:56 /dev/mouse -> psaux
/home/user>cat /etc/sysconfig/mouse
FULLNAME="Microsoft - IntelliMouse (PS/2)"
MOUSETYPE="imps2"
XEMU3="no"
XMOUSETYPE="IMPS/2"
(If you have a serial mouse settings are somewhat different, but the idea is
similar)

Hello,
as I read someone else metioned what you're missing...:-)
Seems to be a starnge problem with RH, I use SuSE and never had any
problems compiling a kernel after I had read the Changes file and
updated my system accordingly.
I never had to fidle around with makefiles for a fresh kernel compile,
but I remember reading that Linus Torvalds said something like:
"RH 7.0 is not useable as development system"
Now I know what he meant...

Date: Tue, 13 Feb 2001 18:23:46 +1030
Well this hasn't helped my problem but follow this from the mandrake support
page:
Error Scenario: Freeze-up after IDE detection
When: During Installation
Why: Some Hard disk drives advertise to the software that they are capable
of higher data rates than they actually can do.
Solution: When the splash screen comes up, press F1, then type "linux
ide0=noautotune ide1=noautotune ide2=noautotune ide3=noautotune" (without
the quotes and leaving out any ide channels that have no hard disks
attached. ) You will also need to add "ide0=noautotune ide1=noautotune..."
to the append line of each system identified in the bootloader (click on the
boot label and edit the system). Once you have a booting system you may
advance the drives to higher performance with the hdparm command.

If you cannot even boot, boot with an installation disk, and, when in the
installation shell look into the /proc/pci file. You should see something
as:
Bus 0, device 17, function 0:
Unknown mass storage controller:Prom,ise Technology Unknown Device
Vendor id=105a. Device id=d30.
Medium devsel. IRQ10. Master capable. Latency=32
I/O at 0xa000 (a)
I/O at 0x9800 (b)
I/O at 0x9400 (c)
I/O at 0x9000 (d)
I/O at 0x8800
Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0x55000000...
Note the (a), (b), (c), (d) numbers and reboot.
At the boot prompt, type linux ide2=(a),(b)+2 ide3=(c),(d)+2 (if not linux,
vmlinuz or whatever your kernel is called)
This should tell the kernel where to look for the proper device.

Works just fine here:
oboe:/tmp% rm plusnode.gif
oboe:/tmp%
> Can someone tell me how to delete it ?
Why don't you give us some details of this "file"?
Obviously its name is not the only relevant thing about it! I'm sure
you've noticed that you can delete other files just fine, and I'm sure
you've also noticed that we can't see into your computer, so you
should deduce that we need to know what is special about this file in
order to help you, and that you need to tell us what is special,
because we can't.
so
ls -l plusnode.gif
lsattr plusnode.gif
df .

Hi !
Thanks for your response. The problem was not using unknown password since I
tried with several (with the right character case use !) which were present
in the passwd file.
However I solved the problem by booting on the boot and root disks of my
slackware distribution. Then I was able to log in with the root username
without password and I could see that all user password in the /etc/passwd
file were set to the char 'x'.
So I cleared the root password and all was fine.
I suspect the fact I used the user manager application in KDE to change one
password user (not the root's one); It seems hat the application then has
changed ALL the password with something incompatible with the crypt
function.
Any other ideas ?
