After two packages of cigarettes, many bottles of beer and no progress I
have to to scream for help. I try to compile a new Kernel (2.4.1) and
there seems to be no way to get it to an acceptable size. The biggest I
got was about 2.2 MB the smallest about 1.4 MB
I need Samba, vfat (for Fat32), TCP/IP, PPP, a running X-Server,
loopback-devices and my CS4232 ISA-PNP-Sound card (with OPL3 I think).
I've no SCSI, all drives are IDE/ATAPIs. There's also a
standard-no-name-isa-modem (non-PNP) and a QIC-80 Tape drive I want to
use (The modem is a must). The rest is as usual (Floppy, ...)
I'd like to have the matrox acceleration for my mystique, the support
of the Pentium/MMX and Fat16 support. This should be all now.
I'll attach my .config so you probably can tell me what's wrong.
If you have a .config, please send it to me.
Thank you very much...

Subject: Lilo problems with Suse 7.0
Date: Tue, 13 Feb 2001 13:30:57 +0000
I bought a magazine which had SuSE 7.0 on the front cover, I installed
Ok, runs really well and decided to keep this version rather than go
back to Mandrake 7.1.
However when I restarted my PC, where I expected to be given the choice
of Windoze or SuSE, the LILO prompt just showed " LIL' ". LILO was
installed on the MBR of the first hard drive which is my Windoze drive.
Mandrake worked fine with this setup. When I re-installed SuSE again, I
went into Yast and created a boot disk. I tried to use it after boot
up,and got no prompt or anything, it just sits there.
I looked at the lilo.conf file, it it says that LILO looks at hda first.
What is going wrong.

and to compile you did the 'make bzImage' to create the kernel?

Do you build with make bzImage?

I had the same problem, and will try Steve's solution.
But before reading, I've made a mistake: I put a MBR
on /dev/hdb and instructed the BIOS to boot on drive D:
It doesn't work. How to remove this MBR? install-mbr
man page is mute on the topic. Do I have something
to tell to the BIOS?
Thank you for any hint.

Hello
Just go to promise.com download the bootdisk and of you go.
The promise controller is not supported by rh 7.0. gues 7.1 with kernel
2.4 will be out soon, which does support promise 20265/20267.
