How about /var/log/XFree86.log file? There should be some hints in
there.
Most likely the kernel driver is not loading with the new kernel. Do an
lsmod and see what drivers are running. Is agpgart enabled?

I would like to help, but need a little more information; so here goes
the third degree. ;o)
<p>1)&nbsp; Exactly what is happening just before the machine freezes?
<br>2)&nbsp; Are you getting any kind of error messages?
<br>3)&nbsp; Have you tried booting the machine with a rescue floppy?&nbsp;
If the install has gotten to the post install phase the base OS might be
loaded.
<p>I had problems upgrading to RHL 7.0 on my machine (also a dual Pentium)
and was able to get installation help free from Red Hat support.&nbsp;
If you have a machine available that you can access the Internet with,
register your copy of RHL.&nbsp; Once the registration is confirmed via
return e-mail, you can call Red Hat support.&nbsp; Instructions are on
page 129 of the Installation Guide you received with the software.&nbsp;
You can complete the registration process at&nbsp; www.redhat.com/support.&nbsp;
If you downloaded the OS, I'm not sure if you can get the free support.
<p>Sorry.&nbsp; I know I sound like an advertisement sometimes.

First of all I must say that this is my first meeting with Linux, so I
don't know these things so well. And my english isn't very good. So
anyway I have a 30 gb hard drive and I have given 4.5 gigabytes for
RedHat 6.0. I have a Windows 98 SE on the same hard drive and I want to
keep it as a gaming OS. When I get to Disk Druid and delete the 4.5 gb
partition which I have created with fips and try to create 4 gigabytes
large / Linux Native type partition the Disk Druid tells me that there
isn't any more space left. I have tried making a smaller partition but
it doesn't seem to help. But the strangest thing is that when I try to
make different name partition, /home for example it does that just fine.
What should I do?

Solution: Do not flash all 4 files, leave the BIOS-flash. Ezassist....
flashes work.

If you are already into emacs you have gnus.
Me, I go for tin for reading news with leaf-
node to fetch the news. Mutt and Pine are both
choice e-mailclients - with procmail for fil-
tering and fetchpop to get the upstream mail.

Setting up e-mail under Linux can be a bit tricky
but very powerfull once you get it right.

I'm wondering if anyone's tried configuring a software RAID on ReiserFS.

We're currently using software RAID (5) with 4 IDE drives. The problem
with putting the RAID on ext2 is that it takes forever to boot up
if there's a power outage (it causes about 2 hours of downtime)

I'd be interested to know if anyone's done this.

Also, does Mandrake 7.2 include support for ReiserFS ?

I was able to get DHCP running under RH7, but I can't get it to start
automatically when I boot the server. RH7 uses xinetd to start these
kinds of things and I haven't found an xinetd script to put into the
appropriate place.

Any suggestions? I haven't found any help in learning to write xinetd
scripts from scratch.

Thanks.

> 1 x PC Bubble jet printer

If the P166 machine is not being used for anything,
use that as the router/firewall. Get a second NIC
for it, connect one to the hub and one to the cable
modem. Connect the other two computers to the hub.
I don't know if your printer has ethernet networking
capability. If so, then connect that to the hub too,
if not, then connect it to the AMD K6 workstation.

If you are using the P166 machine, then get another
computer for the router/firewall. A 386 with 8MB
RAM should be more than enough. You can probably
pick one up for about $25 or find one someone is
throwing out and get it for free. Install Linux
and 2 NIC's, connect one to the hub and the other
to the cable modem. Connect the other three
computers to the hub.

I recomend you to try PROFTPD in http://www.proftpd.org instead of WU or
other FTP clients.

It's well explained in the doc's section of the webpage how to configure all
you need. Almost with default
sample configurations it will fit your needs of an anonymous upload feature.

I hope this help you :)

Subject: canging default partitions?
Date: Wed, 14 Feb 2001 19:44:58 GMT

I used the default RH7 Workstation install, and it created the following:

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 3 24066 83
Linux
/dev/hda2 4 3649 29286495 5 Extended
/dev/hda5 4 3640 29214171 83 Linux
/dev/hda6 3641 3649 72261 82 Linux swap

I would like to resize the hda5 partition and create another partition for
alt linux builds.
I am not sure how to resize2fs this partition, because I don't know if I can
unmount it?

All I would like to do is resize it so that I can create another Linux
partition of 1GB...any ideas?

Thanks,
Denton
