Thank you Eric for your advice. I'll report the problem to the debian
team, whose installation guide precisely advices to use native partition
tools for different system partitions (i.e. windows for windows, linux
for linux). That apparently was not a good solution for my disk.
Cheers

Is there a way to restrict access to distinct printers
simply based on unixgroups for all clients in a LAN ?
(I would like to keep things as simple as users are used to
from working under m$-windows and thus avoid prompting for a
user-based password during every simple print-action!)
Did anyone solve this problem ?
Thanks for any hint

I'm trying to make an LRP 2.2.11 kernel, where do I get the

tree on the kernel's ftp site, but I can't seem to find it anywhere..

According to (older) LILO documentation, this means
"Because most BIOS versions only support two floppies and two hard disks,
files located on additional disks may be inaccessible. This warning
indicates that some kernels or even the whole system may be unbootable."
I don't get this on my system, which has a bootable system on /dev/hdc,
which makes me think that this is a limitation of your motherboard.
> When I boot the machine, the following appears (non-stop) : L 01 01 01

Here's the key (from the same documentation as above)
L : The first stage boot loader has been loaded and started, but it can't
load the second stage boot loader. The two-digit error codes indicate the
type of problem. (See also section 5.2.2). This condition usually
indicates a media failure or a geometry mismatch (eg. bad disk
parameters, see section 3.4)
(From section 5.2.2)
0x01: "Illegal command". This shouldn't happen, but if it does, it may
indicate an access to a disk which is not supported by the BIOS.

I would suggest that you move all bootable drives to the first two
drives, or get a better motherboard.

Hello,
I'm using RH 6.2 and I tried to configure my ISDN-card AVM PCI (Fritz!)
with the isdn-config tool, but all the time I want to connect, I'm just
8 seconds online and after this period, it suddenly brakes the
connection?
Has anybody experiences with isdn-config and with my problem?
Or how can I otherwise configurate my ISDN-card?
Thanks a lot.

Kernel 2.4.1 has builtin support for Promise UDME 100 cards. However,
your distribution vendor ought to supply a boot disk for this.
I know Slackware has one for it's -current tree, so I suppose RedHat
ought to have one somewhere as well, whough a search on their site for
UDMA100 turns up nothing useful, but you ca try for yourself.

Hi,
I am using Acer notebook Travelmate 350TE (PIII 600, 192M RAM, 10G HD). I
have create 4 primary partition.
1st (3G), 2nd (2G) are in NTFS
3nd (3G) is the root partition and 4th (1G) is the swap space.
After installing the Redhat 7.0 on 3rd partition, it can successfully boot
from floppy. When I try to make linux boot from NT boot loader by
#dd if=/dev/hda3 of=/bootsec.lnx bs=512 count=1
I find the content of bootsec.lnx is all zero (using hexdump). What's wrong
with that ?
I have try using that bootsec.lnx and boot from NT boot loader but
unsuccessful
Thanks

Try typing ifconfig -a after connecting. You should have a ppp0 entry
Paste that entry here please
Also the output from either route or "route -n"
Paste that here
Not working? Type lsmod, and we'll see what modules are loaded (assuming
you have ppp support compiled as a module
Stick it here
Also look at the tail end of /var/log/messages and dmesg (make sure there
are no complaints about missing modules)

Hello,
I got the source for XFree86-4.0.2-6mdk.src.rpm, made sure that
"#define FreeType2 /usr"
was set in the "config/cf/host.def" file and succesfully recompile X.
I installed it but when I tried to use xterm with the anti-aliased fonts
with the command:
"xterm -fa courier"
I get the error message: (or somthing like this)
"extension "RENDER" no availble on display :0.0"
What am I doing wrong?
I read in the newsgroups and dejanews that the anti-aliased fonts were
disable by default in X and I just needed to get the source, set the
#define as above and recompile; but it doesn't seem to work for me?
Any ideas?
FYI I'm using mandrake 7.2 and upgraded to XFree86-4.0.2 from the src
above + freetype2 and freetype2-devel.
Thanks for your help.
