Hummm, I did a man xterm and did not see the -fa switch.
Should that be -fn for font name.
xlsfonts will give you the name of the fonts you can use.

Subject: SW processes don't finish, HELP!!!
Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 21:39:41 -0300
I have a Perl program that creates parallel processes.
During its execution some of these processes get the "SW" state, what I see
executing the "ps" command.
Most times, after being a while in this state, the processes return to their
normal execution, but sometimes one of them remains in "SW" state forever
(this is, more than 12 hours when the normal duration is about 1 hour),
having to terminate it with the "kill" command.
I'd like to know why a process can get this state, how to avoid it or taking
it out from such state.
Thanks so much...

I recently recompiles a kernel and after running LILO my computer can

install/upgrade it can find my hard drive again. What do I need to do
to avoid problems like this in the future? I have a 20GB Western

the drive to be seen. It is set up as LBA I believe.

Yes, you can. Main Mandrake site lists mirrors, which you can try.

Extremely unlikely, unless you download an src.rpm and rebuild it
locally.

This is better.

My feeling is that a program, developed for 1.44 will have problems
compiling with 2.2. You have, in general, to _port_ it to such a new
version.

Check your /var/log/messages and /var/log/secure for hints, like a
statement about a telnet connection refused. Also, check your
/etc/hosts.allow and /etc/hosts.deny that they will allow connections.

Have you actually got your telnet-server daemon loaded onto your system. If
you try telnet back to your own host: "telnet localhost" or "telnet
127.0.0.1", do you get a connect message or do you get a connection refused.
If you get a connection refused message, it would indicate to me that the
telnet server has not been loaded onto the system. It all stems back to what
sort of option you selected when you did your install: "a workstation, a
server, a gnome workstatation or custom".
See ya

Use
pnpdump > isapnp.conf
You will then need to edit the isapnp.conf file to reflect the configuration
you need.
Next run
isapnp isapnp.conf

You have to tell cron what user to run it as, and how to run it. Try
adding 'root' and '/bin/sh':
0,30 * * * * root /bin/sh /usr/local/bin/webalizer
That should do it.

converted one of my home systems over to RedHat 7.0. I installed the
actual 2.0 rpm just fine. However..when I tried to install
Tkinter-2.0-8.0-3.i386.rpm I get the following errors
"Tkinter-2.0-8.0-3 requires libtcl8.0.so"
"Tkinter-2.0-8.0-3 requires libtk8.0.so"
I thought that TCL/TK was installed
I show the following RPMs as beeing installed...
tksysv 1.3-2
tcl 8.3.1-46
tcl 8.2.0-46
tk 8.3.1-46
tkinter 1.5.2-27

What am I missing?
Also...How do I access the IDLE in Linux??

It would seem you don't have a card that the nv driver supports.
I notice that your are running 4.0.1a (aplha?). You might like to upgrade
to the lastest stable server.
What kind of graphics/video card do you have?

S means sleeping
W means it is without a resident page (probably means it's a thread, or
something)
Therefore, it would seem that you have a deadlock somewhere in you code.
Check your synchronisation code.

welcome to rpm hell. tcl8.0 is not tcl8.3. unless you have some
dependencies, you might remove the 8.3 rpms and install 8.0. I don't know if
the problems were resolved, but there were some issues with 8.3 that caused
people building packages that required tcl/tk to revert back to 8.0. rpm's
are fine things, but they imply your machine has all the bits and pieces
that the build machine had, which is not always the case.

At the console, boot the Linux box with the command
LILO boot: linux single
This should get you a command-line prompt logged in as root.
Then you can just say
