You should change "defaults" to something like "user,rw,auto".

I know that utility and for awhile I had been working with it to
no avail until I noticed two things somehow stimulated by your
message: first, I wasn't selecting the driver! One has to
_double-click_ on the driver field then it shows up in the
selected area. I hadn't understood that before.
Then I was confused because no driver seemed suitable but from
your message I realized I should just try something generic, so
for the Canon BJC2100 I selected HP Deskjet. SO collapsed several
times with an 'unrecoverable error' but I cleaned up some other
settings in spadmin and now it seems to work well.
Thanks for the tips!

On the first one, did you change it with linuxconf? Linuxconf breaks the
httpd.conf file. Sorry I didn't think to ask before.

[please reply to [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED]]
I just installed Mandrake 7.2. Very nice. But, no sound. It thinks it
has discovered my sound card and enabled sound for it, as far as I can
tell via drakconf, but it really hasn't. What confuses me is my old
Redhat 6.0 picked it up and configured for it just fine!! I thought
Mandrake was based off of Redhat?
I have a Genius SoundMaker 3DJ sound card [Crystal CS4237].
Can anyone help me figure this one out? OH! And when I try to switch
the sound card from its selection to other Crystal options, it says "that
option is not supported yet".
Thank you,
Mike
PS - Yes, I checked the "supported hardware list", I sort of assumed it
was incomplete and listed the most well-known cards. I guess I also
assumed that it would apply the driver that best suited the "generic"
card.

There's also a free project, Plex86 (www.plex86.org), which I think can
boot Windows among other operating systems; it's not complete yet,
though.

This month's issue of Maximum Linux (also publish MaximumPC) has a good article on
this. Just bought the issue this am and have yet to fully read it. Also comes with a
cd.
Do a search for WINE (Wine Is Not Emulation) at www.google and it should find
something for you.
This is a little beyond my skill set as I'm still trying to grasp all the info on
basic things in Linux, but I will stick with it.

LINUX ne reconnaissant pas cette carte en natif, Pour reconnaitre mes

A la main a marche.
Comment faire pour que ce module soit charg automatiquement AVANT le

The card is a 3com 3c90x. I know the module that
is to be loaded. But I wanted to know if there is
a utility to detect the card automatically & load
the appropriate kernel module (something like
sndconfig which detects the sound card & modifies
modules.conf as required)

Fpr some reason I don't think fdisk /mbr will fix that with NT... What you
would do to restore the old boot loader would be to use dd to write the
boot.0300 back to the hard drive.

I always get the kernels directly from kernel.org and never had problems
with my ISDN card. Did not try the 2.4.2 yet, but the 2.4.1 runs fine. If
you want a packaged kernel from SuSE, you must upgrade to 7.1, I guess it
comes with 2.4.0.
But for the 2.4.x kernel to run, it is important to have the newest
modutils. Check that you install at least version 2.4.2 of modutils. You
find a rpm at
ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/modutils/v2.4/
Check also the other requirements for the 2.4.x kernel in
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/Changes

Subject: Hard Drive Installation problem
Date: Fri, 23 Feb 2001 07:37:21 -0600
A Linux 7.0 installation question. I've downloaded the RPMS and base
directories to my D: drive. In a directory named RedHat with subdirectories
of RPMS and base. During the install I select hard drive as the software
source. I get to the Select Partition screen. When I specify the source of
the software I get an error saying that the it cannot be found.
Device /dev/hda5 does not appear to contain a RedHat installation tree.
At the "Directory holding RedHat:" prompt I specify the directory holding
the RPMS and base directory. I've tried every path I can think of that it
may recognize with no success. Examples: d:/RedHat d:/RedHat/RPMS /RedHat
etc. I suspect that I'm giving it a path that Linux doesn't understand.
Help!
