Hi! There:
I have installed Java SDK (refer to

now, I want to uninstall
it. Does anyone know how to do it? I was not using RPM file manager, just
reguler binary file like this "j2sdk-1_3_0_02-linux.bin." Thanks!!

I see that your are running Windows too, so you could try Powerquests
Partitionmagic. Great program, you can enlarge, combine, split ANY
partition you'd like.
I shifted your table around to get a better look at your partitiontable.
If you don't want to use a tool like PQMagic, then I don't thinks it's
possible to achieve what you're trying to, so in that case you'll have to
repartition your harddisk completely.
For that, take a look at cfdisk.
Good luck!

Maybe you should do what the scripts tell you to: use your BIOS!
Try setting the IRQ manually in your BIOS. If that doesn't work, find the
BIOSoption "Reset configuration data" and change it to "true". This will
cause all IRQ's to be redistributed and thus give you a change on watching
TV in Linux.
If all this won't do what it is supposed to, try changing the order of
PCI-cards in your system.

hi,
I am in trouble, I just mounted Redhat7 CD, and copied the directory
tree to the HD of nfs server. after that, I cannot umount and eject
the CDROM.
I change the current directory to /, than
use command 'umount /mnt/cdrom',
it prompts me the message 'device is busy'
it is rare, since there is no any task to access the /mnt/cdrom.
now, what can I do to eject the CDROM?

Hoi Piet
As some already told you that it can't be done,
I'm here to tell you that it can be done. :-)
I'm not sure if I understand your question correctly, but I think you mean:
linux has to little space, and win has to much, so you want to extend /
(hda3)
at the expense of hda5.
(PS. If *any* of the next steps fail, or give a warning/error, don't
continue!)
You cannot simply add that space to hda3, as the others already mentioned,
but you can add it to / though. First use FIPS.EXE to split hda5(D:) in two
parts.
(FIPS is on the linux CD btw.)
Then reboot to linux, and take a look at the partitiontable again.
If all is correct, a /dev/hda6 partition was created.
Check that all the data of hda5 still exist before you proceed.
mke2fs /dev/hda6
mkdir /mnt/new_usr && mount /dev/hda6 /mnt/new_usr
cp -a /usr /mnt/new_usr
edit fstab, and add the following line:
/dev/hda6 /usr ext2 defaults 1
2
mv /usr /old_usr && umount /mnt/new_usr && mkdir /usr && mount /usr
rmdir /mnt/new_usr
now you reboot, and see if no errors occur.
If no errors are seen, `rm -Rf /old_usr`

Your question has more to do with setting up your BIOS than with installing
Linux.
<OT>
Have you tried on IDE1 or IDE2 ? If you've got only one disk, I don't think
you
can expect much of a performance boost anyway. My understanding is that the
average
transfer rate of the disk is much less than the bandwidth the board offers.
Make sure your RAID controller is enabled in your "normal" BIOS and take a
trip to
the RAID BIOS by pressing Ctrl+H and holding it down for a while when told
to.
It's there that you can choose the boot drive and set disk type seen by the
ATA100 controller.
as.

Maybe there's no process using the CDROM, but maybe you started a daemon or
something, when your current path was (part of) the CDROM-path?
I.e., you mounted /dev/cdrom to /mnt/cdrom. After mounting you did a cd
/mnt/cdrom/software and than started (let's say) the proftpd daemon?
If you did, kill all daemon started from within the CDROM-path, that should
help.

Any ideas.

Go to single-user mode ("telinit 1" from a root console or "linux
1" from the LILO prompt). Unmount your /home filesystem. Edit
/etc/fstab to include quota support (eg "/dev/hdb5 /home ext2
exec,dev,suid,rw,usrquota,quota 1 2"). Define your quotas with
edquota. Remount /home.
This assumes home is on a separate partition from /. If not, you
will not be able to unmount / unless you boot from a floppy.

Date: Wed, 7 Mar 2001 06:37:57 +0800
Hi,
My PC is running Windows 2000, Pentium III 800MHz with 320MB RAM.
I'm interested to install Linux OS as dual boot.
I'll be glad if someone could advise me on this. Thanks!
Currently my hard disks look like this:
(disk01 1st partition-Active, 4.7GB) C: Windows 2000 OS
(disk02 1st partition-Active, 4.7GB) D: Data storage
(disk02 2nd partition, 1 GB) E: Data storage
(disk02 3rd partition, 1 GB) F: Data Storage
(disk01 2nd partition, 4.7GB) G: Data Storage
(disk01 2nd partition, 4.7GB) H: Data Storage
(disk01 3rd partition, 4.7GB) I: Data Storage
note: all partitions in FAT32.
Currently I've Partition Magic Pro 6 installed. How could use this tool to
optimise my 2nd OS Linux under Windows2000 environment, without
loosing my data ? I'll like to use BootMagic which it is said
come with the PartitionMagic (however, it never show up).
Your valuable view is appreciated!

Justin

Having a separate /var partition is generally a very good idea,
especially for a machine running a webserver and MySQL, since both
will likely have very active log files - log activity is one of the
single most likely causes of partition corruption after a crash. I
usually create a separate /tmp partition as well.
As for sizes, some approximate values are given below:
/ 600 MB
/var 600 MB
/home 2.5 GB
/tmp 128 MB
/swap 128 MB (Purists might say 96MB, but for a web server
it's worth having a little extreme room)
All the best,

Use procmail to filter the incoming mail on the linux system.
Filter on the To: lines and have those delivered to different accounts
on the linux box. Search for a decent set of procmail recipes :
http://www.uwasa.fi/~ts/info/proctips.html
The problem may be that the user is one of a list that the For may not
contain the username you're looking for. Then get craetive.
Some of the poviders which offer mailboxes as the one you have add an
extra line to the headers, with Intended-Recipient: that makes filtering
even easier.

Use a boot disk and select "boot installed system", giving it the info for
the partition in needs to boot from...
Then, when you're in, just rerun lilo.

If you have any linux CDs, you can create a new boot disk very simply.

The partition is there, and safe... (Unless the windows install did more

unable to start as a webserver on port 11450 or any other. Documentation

Do you have an idea, on how to solve my problems???

You do not need (or want!) to recompile your kernel in order to insert
a driver. So eliminate that from your mind. Just show us the problems
you are having with your NIC.

1) show us the output from /proc/pci related to the ethernet card
2) show us what driver you are using, exactly! Location, version, name,
etc.
3) show us (exactly!) what compile problems you have, if any.
4) show us exactly (dmesg output!) what insertion problems you have
with the driver, if any.

You would need to download the images you want to boot from and then
use rawrite.exe to copy the images. More detailed instructions are
available at the Slackware site at
http://www.slackware.com/install/bootdisk.php
Hope it helps.
