Yup. I untarred (ehrmmm.. is that the word for it?) the sources to
/usr/src/linux-2.4.4 and made a symbolic link to it named /usr/src/linux.
Then I went into /usr/src/linux and did the rest... So, I didn't mix the
two source versions up (I hope).

As Peter said, look for messages on the alternate consoles.

RH6.2 should be fine in this machine but 7.0 would be pushing it IMHO. I
would stick with trying to get 6.2 working.

What install method are you using? If local CD, is it a recent true
ATAPI one? If network, what is the card and what are you using for a
server?

If you're trying to install from an old CD drive, do you have a more
modern one you could put in temporarily?

That is normal if your SCSI driver is a module as opposed to compiled
directly into the kernel. It should be detected later. Do you see "scsi:
1 host" later? This from a system with the SCSI driver as a module and
in a ramdisk:

scsi : 0 hosts.
scsi : detected total.

Subject: HELP: ISDN not working
Date: Tue, 1 May 2001 13:52:15 +0200

Hi,

Since I wasn't able to fix my Redhat 7.1 installation problems I decided to
switch to Mandrake 8.0 (which is quite similar to RedHat). I have problems
setting up my ISDN card: Eicon Diva 2.01 ISA pnp and was hoping you can help
me out. I included the log files. Linux seems to try to make the connection
with my ISP : 0738800924.

When I boot into linux my ISDN card doesn't seem to load properly, according
to the logfile below (dmesg):

ISDN subsystem Rev: 1.114.6.8/1.94.6.1/1.140.6.3/1.85.6.2/1.21/1.5.6.3

Diva: HSCX version A: ??? B: ???
Diva: wrong HSCX versions check IO address
HiSax: Card Eicon.Diehl Diva not installed !
ISDN-subsystem unloaded

When I use isapnp I can make the card work by using non-standard IRQ (11)
and IO (0x200) for my ISDN card. See the log below:

[root@localhost maarten]# isapnp /etc/isapnp.conf
Board 1 has Identity f4 00 00 e8 ac a1 00 89 1c: GDI00a1 Serial No 59564
[checksum f4]
GDI00a1/59564[0]{EICON DIVA 2.01 S/T ISA}: Port 0x200; IRQ11 --- Enabled OK

After this I address the setting to the card using modprobe. Again see the
log below:

Now I am trying to make a Internet connection using the dialup programm of

Does anybody know what is happening here? Why can't I establish an Internet
connection?

I really hope one of you can help me out.

thanx in advance,

Maarten

You actually had Windows 2000 on that thing? Congratulations, but I
understand why you're looking for an alternative!

Personally, my "linux toy" is similar, but I have 64 Mb. I too have
trouble getting the wonderful, stable, trouble-free platform folks like
Petrely are always harping on.

I am really surprised that RH 5.1 won't install. Is it at all possible to
find 64 Mb RAM to borrow? Pull out the 32 Mb you now have (is it a single
DIMM or a bunch of SIMMs?) and replace it with the 64. It could be that
something in the setup is hitting a bad spot in your current memory set.

I thought that the same had happend to me to. It just seemed dead. I waited
for 30-60min or something and suddenly it went alive again. I think it was
going through my hard drive checking, formatting and setting up the linux
filesystem and that took a fairly long time. This disk I used are only 8GB
so I guess if it has to do the same on a larger one it will take a really
long time. When I reinstalled everything ( forgot my passw) it was really
quick through that step because that time the formatting was in place and it
only had to erase linux and start to install packeges again.

cat /proc/scsi/scsi

after you have enabled the correct modules. Does it list the ZIP drive?
