Since upgrading to GNOME 1.4, using the CTRL key when clicking on items
in lists no longer selects individual items. For example, if I want to
select a few messages in Evolution, I click on one item, then CTRL-Click on
subsequent items to select them. But now the additional items do not get
selected.
Is there some way I can fix this?

I did the upgrade with the XFree86 binary distrobution (I did not build
from source). I did that by first going from 3.3.6 to 4.0.2 and then to
4.0.3 as recommended. I also tried the directory replace and that didn't
work. If I just plain and simple call KDM from the command line as root,
that should start it up but that doesn't even work. I am going to try to
rebuild the kdebase package from source (I did do kde 2.1.1 from source).

I have posted a bug report with Redhat. I have a Winbook XL also. The
problem appears to be bios related. The 2.4.2 kernel used Yenta for the
socket driver and it looks at the bios and claims irq12. The only
solution I have at present is to install RH7.1 and replace the kernel and
pcmcia back to 2.2.19. I don't know if this will be solved.

Yeah, sorry about that. I had a problem with my ISP all of

supposed to be a test simply back to my incoming email box,
but Murphy made me hit the "newsgroup" button rather than

Strip down the processes which are started on boot. If you are running
anaconda, you probably have a half-dozen other servers going, too. Use the
kde tool ksysv to prune your startup. The machine is quite capable
although not in the class as your others.

Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 10:20:56 +0800
Hello,
How can I share the PPP 56K dialup connection within RedHat7.1 ?
I use RedHat 7.1 Linux box to dialup to ISP, and there is another
PC(Windows) in the same LAN to share this PPP connection ? How can do this ?
I know the IP MASQ, but don't know how to setup? I tried to read the man
page but and tried to set it, but failed. Would you please to teach me how
to setup that and give me a simple script ?
My simple LAN structure as following :
ISP
|
| (56K Modem)
====================
| RedHat 7.1 |
| Kernel 2.4.3 |
|____________|
| eth0
192.168.0.1
|
__|____
HUB
_______
|
|
====================
| Windows 98 |
=====================
192.168.0.2
I just want my Windows 98 can use any port for IN/OUT through the LinuxBox
when the LinuxBox connect to ISP ?
Please give me a script to do that in Kernel 2.4.3 ?
Best regards,
Eric

In most cases, yes - the only exception is if you
for instance compiled the kernel explicitly for
Pentium III, then tried to boot from a 486 - it
would fail.
But distros like Red Hat ship with a standard
kernel that works on any CPU, so a standard
install done on one system can be moved to
another without problem.
I was surprised to find out how badly microsoft
windows screws up when you try this, I guess I
have been spoiled by Linux.

I am running RH7.0 on my Winchip 240 machine with 72MB. It works fine. I
will upgrade this machine
to RH7.1 once I archived all my data for a clean install of RH7.1,
Only computing intensive applications such as multimedia (i.e. watching a
movie on VCD) is unacceptable.

The fix I referred to was that I upgraded to the 2.4 kernel, but did not
upgrade alll of the companion files. These other upgrades are listed in the
README or INSTALLATION notes for the 2.4 kernel. You can still compile a
working kernel without them, but you may have undesirable results. I tried to
save some downloads and compiles, but it affected my modem.
I don't see your modem list under /proc/pci nor do I see the serial driver
listed under /proc/interrupts. Is the modem a PCI modem?
If your /dev/modem points to /dev/ttyS0, then you need to use the setserial
command to set the port and IRQ numbers on /dev/ttyS0 to match your modem.
I can see this on my /proc/pci, but I don't see it on yours. For example, my
/proc/pci shows my modem on 0x800 and IRQ 10. I used setserial to match
those. Your setserial settings look like the boot up defaults.

What I have found is that the action() function in
/etc/rc.d/init.d/functions is behaving correctly by not allowing the system
to continue due to the "failure" flags being tripped due to problems of the
fsck scripts saying that the problems were encountered with the filesystem.
But, an unmounted, read-only filesystem should allow fsck, since that is
precisely the right way to use fsck.
Any help is appreciated as I'm not found of the says, "Physican, heal
