It is on auto.
I probably should make it clear also, that there is no error code after
the letter 'L', and therefore the documentation cannot help much.
Thanks.

For some strange reason, Redhat didn't include linuxconf in the install
process. It can be found on the second CD, or downloaded ( a newer version)
here:

Hi all,
I have rh7.1 dualbooting with Windows but I want to shrink the windows
partition and create another partition to kind of share between the two OS's
(as i can't write to NTFS). I have done this before and shafted the whole
machine by screwing lilo up. I just need some quick advice, after I
repartition obviously the hda1 hda2 numbers will change etc, and then upon
reboot poooof, all gone, how can i create a boot disc (or whatever changes
are needed) to allow me back in to Linux and reconfigure lilo?
Thanks in advance folks, you could save me some serious reinstalling time!

try doing a text install, and run a frame-buffer-driver (fbdev) without
testing it during the install. hope and pray when you finish the
install and reboot. I've had to do this with toshibas before, it's
worth a shot. <smile>

When I attempt to rebuild a source package with the following syntax ...

I have a RH 7 machine.
I want to glibc 2.3 compile from source.
What is the correct way to do it.
(I am not talking about ./conifugre, make, make install)
I want to know how to do it with out screwing anything up. How do I end up
with a working glibc and have that glibc in the right spot?
Thanks.

After hitting F1 and typing in expert at the boot prompt, the
installation froze when trying to detect my harddisks.
I suspect it has got to do with the promise 66 card. Try installing
again using the following parms at the boot prompt:
boot: vmlinuz ide2=0x10c0, 0x10b6 ide3=0x10b8, 0x10b2
Still no go.. installation still hangs at the pt of detecting my
harddisks.
I am currently running win98 on my primary hard disk and
linux-mandrake 6.5 on my second hard disk. I am able to install my
current linux using the above method.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I wish to install LILO on the Linux Boot partition (hda4), not on the MBR
(Ultimately I want to put BootMagic there). All's fine when LILO is on the
MBR, but when installed on my linux boot partition (hda4), I just get LIL...
showing when it tries to start.
I have 2 WIN98/SE primary partitions as well as Linux (Redhat 7.1) - also a
primary partition - also a DOS extended partition - all on one 10 gig disk.
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Colin.

since posting the above message, I've made some progress ('regress'?)
since I've backed out of most of the muck left over from the abortive KDE2
install, but when I try to load KDE, I get error messages (in
.xsession-errors) about kcontrol and about not loading a bunch of files
(including kfm, kpanel, krootwm, etc.).
I replaced kcontrol with the version from Mandrake 7.0, not a good
solution but the best I could come up with. I'm still stuck with the
errors and I can't get into KDE. I think I've still got some munged DLL's.
(My cleansing operations via ldconfig were helpful but not enough.)
I can get into gnome (as root I'm configured as gnome anyway but I'm
talking about my user setup where I want to be KDE) but I can't figure the
magic to get back to KDE.
Again, I would in general prefer to go to KDE-2.1.1 but I'd settle right
now for KDE-1.9.17 (Mandrake 7.2). I'm learning a lot (sheesh, it's a
jungle out there in those directories!) but I'm facing some deadlines and
need to get back to my regular business, however amusing this is.
So:
(a) tips on how to repair my KDE-1.9.17?
(b) tips on how to proceed to KDE-2.1.1?
I'm grateful in advance. I'm ready to provide more info, just not sure
right now what's relevant.

Note that I find it highly strange that after X has crahed, I cannot
restart it, but do instead get the error message mentioned in my original
message. All of this didn't happen too often, but still I know that it
doesn't happen at all on another machine, so something must be wrong.
Additionally, I cannot reproduce this problem "on-demand". It happens when
it wants to, but it doesn't neccessarily happen when I try to make it
happen by putting my system under stress.
Greetings
Nils

Subject: Linux software installation problems

Hi I am having problems installing just about anything on my linux box.
I have redhat 5.2 Linux and I have has problems trying to upgrade its
existing packages anyone required for me to do a build on the kernel or
bluefish html editor. Two such packages are the latest versions of gcc and
tck. I followed the instructions for tck and did an install as it said in
the instructions and everything seemed to go ok but when I tried to install
bluefish it said I was using my old version so where had it put the new
version and why had it not overwritten the old version with it? I figured it
was something to do with this usr/local directory which was not present on
my Linux system before hand so later when I tried to install the later
version of gcc only forcing the base dir to /usr as opposed to /usr/local I
did a full compile then a 'make install' and it threw an error that a
certain i586 directory below /usr/lib was not present so where had it put
everything?
Thanks
Yours going insane
Darren

And almost none of them are isa modems.

Or better yet, get a modem that doesn't hang.
