RH 7.1 uses a modified 2.4.2 kernel. That series of kernels use a program
to configure the packet filtering rules called iptables. Your goal is to tell the
computer hosting the external interface to masq anything coming from
your internal machines. In all probability your modem is using DHCP to
get a ip address - whcih means the ip address changes every time you dial.
Run the command"'man iptables" at a terminal/prompt or use xman.
As long as are going to be playing with the packet filter you
should set up some security.
You need to have ip_masq capability built into the kernel. Which if I am
not mistaken Red Hat does be default. Now I don't reccomend you use this
- but it does show you what you are looking for. Your internal machines
will need to be configured to know which computer is the gateway to the
internet. 192.168.0.1 would seem to be the gateway.

#!/bin/sh
/sbin/iptables -P FORWARD DROP
/sbin/iptables -A FORWARD -s 192.168.0.1/32 -j MASQ
/sbin/iptables -A FORWARD -s 192.168.0.2/32 -j MASQ
----cut----
I reccomend trying this site:
www.linux-firewall-tools.com
as it has an automated firewall building program which would help I think.

Searching in general works in commandmode by typing "/" followed by the
string or regular expression you're searching for.
A better way would be to do what the vim help functions do, which makes
the text file navigatable, by adding an tags. When you stand on a tag
(in your case a c-function) you can use Ctrl+] to move to the
declaration of that function, and back again. The precise motions I
don't know, but the vim command ":help tags" should give the information
you need.

Greetings!
I went through blood, sweat and tears to get KDE-2.1.1.1 installed
finally crowned with qualified success last night.
Doing so required 'force' and 'nodeps' all applied in the 'right' order,
none of it documented. ('--test' is your friend though!)
One main reason for all of this was to get the newest version of kmail
going. Now I find it crashes immediately after starting!
I'm thinking what I have to do is take the koffice rpm and 'force' and
'nodeps' the darned thing into place.
It feels risky.
Any insight or advice. Is there _any_ installation documentation anywhere
on this wide virtual planet?
Please help if you've got a clue to spare, thanks!
Got some other problems with KDE-2 but they're rather minor aesthetic
issues (e.g, no pictures on some of the icons on the little panel bar on
the bottom of the screen - figure I've got to edit some config files in
the bye and bye).

It does this on purpose - unles you tell it to install there - it will
not touch it.

You created 2 mount points swap and /boot, change /boot to /
Linux can be installed in multiple mount points but this is usually
reserved for special things - servers for example.
Linux also can be installed in the extended area so the primaries never
really enter into it.

I am not very familiar with PM but your partition tables are stored on
the disk itself PM just edits and reads them. So PM never enters into it,
it would just accept your changes.
If you are keeping your other operating system such as it is I
reccomend against anything fancy. You might inadvertantly loose it.
Why not install all of linux on the second hdd in one partition?

Though its not streaming you could have the card on constant grab and
just send it into the webservers directory, with a meta updating html
page and it would be like a imbedded movie. It is just a big kludge though...
There is a project to add streaming media to apache I think but its
unknown how successful it is.
You should look into non-apache related streaming. Apple has one, vorbis
is working on one as well as icecast I believe.

There is a good reason that linuxconf is deprecated ... it's broken.
There is no way known that it could keep up with the updates and
improvements of the packages that it was supposed to administer.
My suggestion would be to learn how to admin your box manually. That
way you'll know exactly what your system is doing and why, and if things
go awry, you'll know how to fix them.

Also bear in mind that the dynamic runtime loader
ld.so will search for libraries in the locations
specified by /etc/ld.so.conf, independently of
the setting (or lack thereof) of LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
Be careful with this, though; it's possible to
hose your system thoroughly by messing with this.
You have been warned.

The "cp" command copies files. It doesn't matter whether the destination
is a hard disk or a floppy; once the device is mounted on the directory
tree, it's all the same.

it's a network problem. Someone or something is trying to put too
much data into a statically declared object (skbuf). It may be a
problem with the driver (i.e. the driver is trying to put
sizeof(skbuf)+1 bytes into skbuf), so you may want to upgrade to the
latest kernel and see if it is still happening before you report it
as a bug.
You should probably take a look in /var/log/messages, as well as any
other log that had to do with network traffic (i.e. your mail logs) to
try and pin down who is sending the triggering network packets. But
you'll still need to get the latest kernel before you know if it is a
fixed problem.

One of my machines with kernel 2.4.4 / SuSE 7.1 just freezes when the boot
process comes to "Starting syslog services". It follows a black screen with
a blinking cursor, no reaction to any input. I have to cold restart the box.
If I press Ctrl-C as long as the "Starting syslog services" message is
there, the booting continues, a few lines later it tells "Re-Starting syslog
services" without any more problems. The system comes up and runs fine after
that.
What might be the problem ? It is a small box with a P120, 40 MB Ram. Any
hints welcome !
