You could edit /etc/rc.config and run SuSEconfig afterwards, or just
set this in yast. Check the docs that came with the distro.

Yes, but IIRC it was due to stability problems. And that they would
reconsider when reiserfs is stable. So perhaps in 7.2 or 8.0.
However, there are links to a modified RedHat CD1 with reiserfs support
on www.namesys.com.

No, konqueror won't let you proxy https.

Why are so eager to proxy https? It is normally not used a lot in
comparison with http.

Hi, all!
I have now struggled two months with this problem and its time to ask for
help.
RedHat Linux 7.1
Adaptec AHA-1542B SCSI hostadapter ISA, which BIOS is disabled as the card
is jumpered to IRQ 10.
Philips CDRW CDD 3610
Upon installation of RedHat 7.1 the CDRW is installed and functions both
with XCDRoast and as CDrom.
The Adaptec AHA-1542B is not recognized, but the driver can be loaded by:
modprobe aha1542 aha1542=0x130,11,4,5. I can after this get XSane working.
I then got the information that the aha1542 must be compiled in the kernel.
I compiled the kernel 2.4.4 with the aha1542 integrated. When I tested the
kernel and added to lilo.conf:
append="hdc=ide-scsi aha1542=0x130,11,4,5"
both the SCSI-card and the scanner is recognized at bootup. The scanner
works together with Xsane, but now I have the problem that I cant use the
CDRW as cdrom. I read in the CDwriting how to that the CDRW must be
recognized by the SCSI-card BIOS to be able to be used as CDrom. As my SCSI
card is disabled this is not possible. I wonder, if there is a work around?
Here is the output of : cdrecord -scanbus

This is actually why I hate windows. There is always a new way to do
things.... a new way to configure things, a new this, a new that.... You
can get all the basic usage out of it easily, but doing anything else is
overly complex, usually buggy, and requires 3 gazillion re-boots.
Linux has a hard learning curve right off the bat. But everything you
learn can be applied to everything else. you learn how to use the man
pages, you learn how to find the configuration files in /etc, you figure
out how to restart services without having to reboot. Everything
follows the same logical course of working together.
There have been studies that show that if you are completely ignorant of
computers, Linux is easier to learn. Because you can do more with fewer
concepts, and you can expect those concepts to be applied to nearly
every aspect of the system.
Linux is also about RTFM. If you do a little research
(http://google.com) you'll probably find someone who has had the same
problem.

I believe you've found your problem. My RH 7.1 system does this after I
power down the modem. I personally like the feature for security reasons
as this NIC is connected to my DSL modem. To restart the connection all
that is necessary is to power up the modem (allowing it time to train)
and issue the command: ifconfig ethx up . If I want to verify the
connection: ifconfig .

Which kernel are you running? Also, what exactly are the
symptoms you see when configuring X. On my Winbook XL, under RH7.1
with 2.4.2 kernel, there is an interrupt conflict between the
pcmcia controller and the PS/2 mouse, which is a bit subtle.
It arose only under the 2.4 kernels. I have a workaround.

I think that logging in with text mode is the important part on this

text mode.

You have a floppy for your Windoze. Boot it and from the prompt:
a:> fdisk /mbr

I do have a soundblaster installed ( awe32 ) but it's on irq 6 io 210, so it's

I'll see if I can disable pnp on the nic and the awe32 and see if I can get it
