What is Stateful Packet Filtering and Dynamic Stateful Packet Filtering?
Is that just mean I have option to specify which packets based one
"APPLICATIONS" I can permit? and dynamic is just automatically detect and
permit?
but aren't those applications uses their own port and if I block ports then
it would block THAT application effectively?
are they saying that I can check and permit port 80 and only allow internet
explorer packets and not netscape browsers?
confusing...

Try ifconfig eth0, and see what ip address it's currently set to
If it's wrong try ifconfig eth0 24.151.xxx.yyy up (as far as I can remember)

Don't quite understand the question - what are you trying to get it to do?
File & print with/for Windows, or DNS related activities. The two are quite
seperate.

Alphanumerics and _'s should work fine

Yes - if it's an out-of the box install it may already be running.
Try a ps -x and see if httpd turns up. If not, run /etc/init.d/httpd start

Assuming you've got a full class C, broadcast _should_ be 24.151.xxx.254
If not, check with your ISP.

Are you running/considering running any firewalling, or do you have that
taken care of for you?

I strongly suggest you take a look at the various HOWTO's on your machine or
at http://www.linuxdoc.org/docs.html#howto , as they cover a whole range of
topics that may prove helpful.
Good luck,

Wow. You're absolutely right - that program is *incredible*. I
downloaded it, ran the install program, and it did everything for me.
Not only that, it did it *correctly*, and apache worked the very first
time I tried with the correct modules installed. I can't think you
enough for referring me to it. :)

You still have to get the kernel module from xfree's cvs site. Matrox
has the mga_drv and mga_hal xfree drivers, but they won't work with the
2.4.4 mga kernel driver.

I think that as long as I don't try to access the tape drive first
as /dev/ht0 (and thus load the ide-tape module), then Denis's
fix works fine. I think I could just put this is rc.local
or just load the modules when I need them to use the tape drive.
I know several people had complained about not being able to use
the HP Colorado IDE tape drives under RH7.1. I've been trying
to track them down without success. I just came upon Denis's
solution by luck, and I think it should be better advertised.

Hi!
I've installed Suse 7.2 on my AMD K6-II machine with Creative SB16 (orig.).
After using Yast2 to get sound working, everything was fine (I never used
Yast2 before). But then I compiled a new kernel and now my sound does not
work anymore: instead I get these messages:
Loading driver:
Starting sound driver: snd-card-sb16 /lib/modules/2.4.4/misc/snd.o:
unresolved symbol unregister_sound_dsp
/lib/modules/2.4.4/misc/snd.o: unresolved symbol register_sound_dsp
/lib/modules/2.4.4/misc/snd.o: unresolved symbol unregister_sound_special
/lib/modules/2.4.4/misc/snd.o: unresolved symbol register_sound_special
/lib/modules/2.4.4/misc/snd.o: insmod /lib/modules/2.4.4/misc/snd.o failed
/lib/modules/2.4.4/misc/snd.o: insmod snd-card-sb16 failed
failed
The modules are there (in .../misc/...). I re-installed alsa, but this
did not work, and using Yast2 again it sais, that the kernel modules could
not be loaded.
What can I do?
Thanks for any help!
Bogislav

I am having problems with acroread on a number of my Linux systems.
In particular, although the intial page display is fine, if I scroll down, I often
get a yellow page with all of the letters looking like they have been eaten by
tiny moths. It is impossible to read in that state. sometime is I page down more,
it will clear up, sometimes not.
Has anyone seen this and have a cure?
Thanks.
Mandrake 6.1 ( and 7.2) Acrobat 4.05
xpdf does much better, but there are documents it cannot read.

Which is the source of Denial of Service attacks all over the world.
People who want everything on by default, and cannot be bothered to
apply basic security. Their box gets rooted through imapd or named
and next thing you know someone's getting flooded with ping packets.
Default disable/deny is a GOOD rule.

Did you buy the retail version? Which docs did you look in?
www.linuxdoc.org? How about just running "setup" from a command
line and checking off the boxes for what you want enabled?

No, it's in the Samba FAQ.

Sure there is, you just didn't see it. Just because you
didn't see it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

No no no no no no no no NO! We had WAY too many people infected by
the wuftpd hole; everything should be OFF until it is turned on.

It is on the CD:
/7.1/i386/RedHat/RPMS > ls linux*
linuxconf-1.24r2-10.i386.rpm linuxconf-devel-1.24r2-10.i386.rpm
You can select it in the installer, or install it later if you want
to...

The control-panel program has an (old) GUI tool to do this. Netconf
will do it after you install linuxconf.

You setup a firewall and locked yourself out.
Run 'lokkit' as the root user.

You'll probably want to go into your BIOS and where it says:
PnP (Plug and Play) OS Installed = Yes
Change it to 'No'; also you should be using the poorly-named '3c59x'
driver instead.
