If my guess is correct, and you are just hoping to drop in multiple CPU
cards into your run-of-the-mill passive backplane, then the answer is a
definite no.
A passive backplane is just a physical layout variation on normal mother
boards - instead of the slots being on the same PCB as the CPU, chipset,
etc, they are instead all on a board themselves (with no smarts), and
the connection between 'motherboard' and busses is by way of the former
slotting into one of the slots...
(I think I should re-write that paragraph, but I won't bother :-) )
With the PCI bus, and now with the montrous PII cartridges, things have
got more complicated, and now you are starting to see 'Slot 1' sockets
on the backplane with custom wiring to the main 'motherboard card'...
All in all, if it's stated as an SMP system ('Slot Board Computer' or
MoBo) then it's probably based on some known chipset so all should be
well I suspect???
If it doesn't say it's SMP capable then your definitely out of luck I
would say.
